POOR PIC QUALITY Canon Powershot SX30 IS

Recently, the quality of picture being shot by my Canon Powershot SX30 IS has changed. The settings have remained constant and are set to:

14M 4320x3240

This is the highest quality setting on the camera. At this quality, the pictures used to be approximately 5-6MB each. More recently, they have become about 2MB each. I am unclear as to why this is happening and am hoping that someone will have a simple solution or some suggestions for me.

This camera is just over a year old and is well cared for (no damage of any kind). The pictures are being taken at this size on the camera, not being converted when downloaded.

Thanks.

Do you format your card after downloading?

If you only 'erase' images, it might be that the card is not working at its best. Using 'format' cleans the card more thoroughly than 'erase'.

Good luck and hope you find out 'why'.

Maybe you have changed the compression ratio from 'fine' to 'normal' (see page 74 in the manual), or maybe you're just shooting less 'complex' images than before. The file size if much smaller if shooting e.g. an image of a clear blue sky, than it is if shooting an image with lots of fine detail.

Go into your camera menu and try resetting your camera to factory default.
