Re: Square format

Great images all the way through the thread.

I find you need to compose and balance your image differently in a square, it is a great format!

I have to crop landscape and portrait lifestyle images into squares every season and it's amazing how big a difference it has to people's perceptions. I think that some of us are very lucky to be able to visualise the square image whilst looking at the bigger picture (I think part of the reason my wife can't share my love of a rangefinder just hit me!....

Re: Square format

I think that's your best square composition yet in the thread! I might have a play with some square landscapes later if I get time, you're right its more of a challenge as normally you want it as wide as possible...

Re: Square format

These are all excellent. I have no doubt you've inspired not a few forum members to go shoot in square format, myself included!

Cheers,

Re: Square format

You know, almost all Leica glass can cover 36x36mm without any vignetting, I want leica M with 30x30mm sensor at least, like very much my old H20 back

I know, right? Always wanted a Leica body with a square frame...

The funny thing is, for many years I had love-hate relationships with art directors who, in turn, had love-hate relationships with my square pictures. Last year I decided to clean up my act and submitted nine uncropped Leica M9 shots for the JTI/Sobranie ad campaign. Next day an art director is exploding on the phone "WE THOUGHT YOU WOULD SHOOT THEM SQUARE!!!". What do you know...
