sharpest aperture nikon 18-105 ED VR
(Results may differ slightly based on sample variation and technique, but it is a good start at least. For best results do some tests with your own gear).

Most, if not all, lenses have a sweet spot in or around a particular aperture setting. For me, I find the 18-105 is sharp from wide open (f/3/5-f/5.6 depending on the focal length). If you look very (unreasonably) closely, mine is sharpest at about f/8. I'd assume that most copies are like mine, so yours is probable sharpest at or around f/8.
Don't get too hung up on shooting at the sharpest aperture. Technique makes a much bigger difference in the sharpness of an image.
what is the sharpest aperture of the Nikon 18-105 ED VR lens?
On the wide end, f9 - f11 sharpens things up beautifully. Don't need to stop down quite as much on the telephoto end; f5.6 to f8 normally produce very good results.
Check the image resolution analysis section of the review of the 18-105mm at lenstip.com. They plot out image resolution by focal length and aperture. it appears sharpest between F3.5 and F8 through most of its range.
As another poster noted.....I don't worry too much about trying to hit the sharpest point on this lens. It is sharp as sharp as I need everywhere.
