Canon Elph 310 HS shadow in right corner?

Just picked up the Canon Elph 310 and when taking photos using flash, with keeping the lens in original position (not zooming), I get a black shadow in the
lower right of screen. Is this normal? Also it happens with the Elph 300 HS.

Trying to find a camera between 150-200 price range that has a decent zoom. Any suggestions? Or should I stick with the 310 and work around the shadow?

That is normal for this camera and is due to the small size of the body which restricts proper placement of the flash.

I just got an Elph 300 HS which exhibits the same problem though I don't generally use the flash. This is apparently a flaw in the design of the camera. You can avoid it by zooming in just a little.

Typically this is the shadow of the lens due to the close proximity of the on-board flash, and it only occurs when you're shooting at or near the widest end of the zoom range. As someone else said, try zooming out just a bit, and if necessary, take a couple of steps back to compensate for the field of view. Practice at home to see where the shadow disappears.
