Just Bought 18 Blades of Goodness

I just won an auction for a Takumar 200 F3.5 preset lens. I mostly shoot with legacy glass with my Pentax, the only new glass I own is my Sigma 70-300.

I find that the old Takumars are extremely well built and the IQ is outstanding, especially considering how old the lenses are. From photos I've seen the 200 F3.5 is no exception. With its 18 blades and circular apeture at all settings the bokeh this lens produces is very pleasing. Sharpness seems great as well.

Can't wait to get it in the mail and put it through its paces.

Here is a picture of the 18 blades.

Very sweet!

I got a Pentacon 135mm f/2.8 with 15 blades a few weeks ago, my first M42 lens. I'm very happy with it, especially the rendering. It's certainly a viable option for "filling in the gaps" between modern AF Pentax primes, especially taking the price into consideration.

Here's a Xmas pic with it, around f/4 i think

Congratulations!

I acquired the same lens a little over a year ago...you are going to love this lens!
It is very sharp, and the bokeh is beautiful.
Looking forward to see some photos you make with it...

Robert

Re: Just Bought 18 Blades of Goodness

Yeah, I can't wait to get it. I've been using a zoom lens for my long glass, so I'm really looking forward to getting a prime for a long lens.

Just Received, Better Thank I Thought it Would Be!

Well I received the lens. It is absolutely brand new looking. Both the lens and the leather case look fresh from the factory. I can't believe you can get this quality of lens for such a price. I'd gladly spend $300+ for this lens and I got it for $60.00.

Here it is next to my SMC Takumar 55mm F1.8 and new Super Takumar 35mm F3.5

Such a smooth and wide focus ring, and at F3.5 it is very bright for a tele lens. I can't wait to get this lens out in the mountains for some wildlife photography!

I took a couple of shots at my shop today, being curious how it will work. Here is a sample. Note, this isn't a fancy shot, just of a small bird out in my sandblasting yard. There isn't much to photograph out there, but this will do. Just a quick and dirty shot.

This shot was wide open at f3.5 and 100 ISO. This lens is so bright that this was shot at 1/640 sec.

And here is a 100" crop of the above image. Pretty good for a wide open lens!

I really think this lens is a keeper. I can't wait to try it out in the mountains (I know where I'll be Christmas Eve :))

Re: Just Bought 18 Blades of Goodness

congrats, the preset 3.5/200, a great lens!

I hope you don't mind I ask, but I am curious:
how did you get the photo showing the blades?
I ask because it's mine, taken with a preset Takumar f2.8/105, first version.

btw. I have two copies, and one is for sale

I found the image of the blades just doing a search in the image section of google using the lens name. I wanted to show how many aperture blades the lens had, but didn't have it on hand yet to take my own photo.

Good Pickup

This was one of the first Tak lenses I tried; built like a tank and I always enjoyed it. Any shots yet?

I've dubbed this lens Bokehmon

I have one too and it's actually a pretty good lens but doesn't have very good contrast. That said it gives a certain look.

Yup that is one I have in my collection. The real Bokeh Monster in my book, at least for telephotos.

Re: I've dubbed this lens Bokehmon

That is due to lacking the later SMC 7-layer coatings group. The earlier coatings on these lenses were during the development time Pentax and Zeiss had together and amount to only a 3-layer coating groups I think. Considering the earlier coatings probably have as much as a 10% reduction in total light transmission front to back even on a lens with 4-5 elements the lower contrast is a given. Although I have one of these lenses in my collection I have not used it in probably 15 years or more for that reason. I prefered my SMC Takumar 300/4 for that even though the Bokeh was not as good.

hm..that's all you got to say?

If you take a photo of anyone you should ask for permission first.

All my photos are all rights reserved, and some of my photos are offered for sale by a stock company. It could be real dangerous if you happen to take a photo a stock company has rights for.

Minimum I personally expect is that you give credit to the photographer and link to the place where you have taken the photo from.

I am very sorry kuuan, I did not say I took the photo and did not know who did. I right clicked on the photo on google images and just pasted the photo link here. No harm was intended and I did not infer that the image was my own.

I appologize. I'd edit my first post if I could, but there is no option to edit.
