A visit to a railway museum

Last Saturday I had to take my son back to York where he lives. He also works in the National Railway Museum there and so I decided to pay a visit.

I had difficulty deciding whether to take my Samsung GX-10 or my NX100 and in the end decided to try my luck with the NX100.

Using both the 20-50mm and the 30mm F2, I was amazed that I got as many decent images as I did given it was so dark with thick clouds and rain outside and some of the internal lighting had failed.

The high ISO performance of the GX-10 is much worse than I could have got with the NX100/30mm, so I think I made the right choice.

As usual most of the images have been post processed in Capture One (even though I had left the camera on JPEG only at the start by mistake) Some Sharpening, NR, and Saturation/Levels adjustments on most of the images.

I like this camera so much that I've bought a second one - for my wife to use, as I just know that when we go on holiday next year, she'll want to use my NX100. As they were being sold new for £199 in the UK it seemed a shame not to get one.

Enjoyed these shots a lot, but you can’t have the Mallard (pic3) as background, it should be centre stage:-)

Also jealous of your son, I’d love to work there.

Re: A visit to a railway museum

Thanks a lot for sharing these photos! I am a big railway fan and modelling British Railways but never visited the NRM. But if I ever come to the UK this will be the first place to visit. Your son sure has a great place to work - could not immagine a better one.

You are very right about the second NX100 - I had to buy a NX11 because my wife used my NX10 most of the time and now my daughter will grab my camera - time to buy her an NX100 but unfortunately not the same grat price here.

Thomas

I hope you visit your son very often and bring your camera with you!
