Samsung WB750 new purchase
Dec 3, 2011
I have been looking for this camera since I first saw the announcement in September 2011. I looked on Samsung's web site, Amazon.com, Digital Camera Resource web site, dpreview, and elsewhere. It finally popped up on Samsung's web site. There is a "SHOP" button, and when I clicked on it, it lead to a no results page. I kept checking throughout November, and then on November 22, the SHOP button press lead to "1 Online Retailer" and a link to Frys.
The Frys WB750 page showed the camera was available in limited quantities, 1 per household, for $279.99, and when I clicked the "Add to Cart" button, it came up in the cart at $209. I couldn't believe it. This was a brand new high-tech model being discounted $70; some early price estimates had it priced over $300. Then it occurred to me that the price reduction was probably a "Black Friday" deal. I was still doubtful, so I canceled the purchase and resolved to call Frys the next morning, early. When I called Frys, the lady said that the deal was just as represented and that there were two cameras still available, so I got back on the Frys web site and ordered it immediately. The price with shipping was $220.94. UPS delivered the camera on 11/30/11.
While waiting for the camera to arrive, I kept checking the Samsung and Frys web sites. Samsung went back to no results, and Frys went to 'None available for shipping', only store pickup available. Just before writing this report, Samsung and Frys began showing the camera available again - for $279.99, no discount. I've not found the WB750 anywhere else.
I printed the 145 page User Manual, so I could study and set up the camera without having to be on the computer with the pdf file. I installed the battery and connected the battery charger before trying to take any pictures (as the Quick Start booklet suggests). I registered the camera via the Samsung web site; I read that this will extend the warranty three months but have not received any confirmation from Samsung yet.
A 1-page insert in the camera package showed accessories, and I decided I wanted an HDMI cable, an extra battery, and a battery charger (the charger that comes in the box charges the battery while it's in the camera). Although there is an "ACCESSORIES" button on the Samsung WB750 web page, there are none shown when you click the button. After Googling for 'Samsung accessories', I found a citation that said to order accessories through a repair center. I had encountered this with Sony camcorders years ago so was not surprised. I located two places to order accessories from:
SamsungParts.com and SamsungAccessory.com
Neither of these are actual Samsung owned but are authorized Samsung dealers. I ended up ordering the battery and charger from one dealer and the HDMI cable from the other; neither dealer had all the accessories I wanted.
I've only had this camera three days and just took pictures yesterday, so I'm still learning the operation and features. I made an album and put just two pictures in it for now, but I plan to add more, in different exposure situations. I'm not an expert photographer, I just use cameras to record what I see and find interesting. I'll try to learn the camera features and provide info and pictures as I have time.
The pictures that I took look very good to my untrained eye. They are certainly as good as pictures taken by my Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7. I plan to mount both cameras (WB750 and SZ7) on a tripod 2-camera mount and take side-by-side pictures and post them in my album, which by the way, is here:

with only 2 pictures in it now.
One last thing: in the WB750 entry in the dpreview database, there is a user review. You can find it here:
