advice on using m42 lens with adapter will it smack miror? 1000d

Hi I am interested in getting a pentacon 135mm 2.8 in m42 fitting to use with an adapter on a 1000d , anyone on here used that setup, I have heard some m42 thread lenses could project too far into the chamber causing the mirror to whack on the lens and break but have seen other peoples photos using pentacon 135 with 350d etc.

If it is not possible I may get a zeiss jenna 2.8 or 3.5 instead with a praktica bayonet fitting. thanks for any input. cant wait for xmas so I can get using my 1000d present. ive got a samyang 8mm for it and also my old olympupus 50mm 1.8 with an adapter as well as the kit lens(non IS). best wishes for the festive season/holidays....paul

I have no issues with my Fotodiox M42-EOS adapter w/AF Assist. I use it with a Zeiss Jenna Flektogon 35mm f:2.4, a Takumar 55mm f:1.8 and a Vivitar zoom 28-80mm. I can use it with either my 60D and T3i.

It was with canon 5D-the FF-camera.

Just be aware when rear lens is small on wideangles. There is terrible lot of CA. Unuseable!  tested: vivitar 24/2.8 and 2.0 version. plus novoflex novflexar 35/4.5(with built-in tubes. Even on Vivitar 24/2.0 sharpeness is not best. one can at least use it with 2.0, 2.8 and 4 to have a "dream"-lens. a little softeffect but quite sharp. all m42. i am about to test more on 1000D. above all the zeiss smaller than 50mm.

Just want to inform you about my new tread i opened today about using adapters.

My 35mm/2 and 24/2.8 Nikkors were awful on Canon...the lowly IS kit lens was better.

The 24/2.8 Olympus Zuiko on the other hand is excellent.

As for 135mm lenses...nearly all I've tried were very good, whether Vivitar, Nikon.....
