pl210: any experience?

Looks like dpreview didn't like the touchscreen on wb210. Anybody have any experience with comments on pl210? Can't find anything on these forums.

Adorama has them for $125. Looks like an attractive price for a 160g slim (22mm thick) 27mm-270mm equiv. ho ho ho.

Thanks.

Samsung's compacts, to be honest, are junk cameras. They had a couple highlights, but couldn't figure out what to do with them, so back to the junk goes Samsung. Thus, you won't find too many here with the experience with them. It's not like going to the Canon forum for the compacts, where it's pretty hard to go wrong with a Canon compact, to be honest.

Odd you say that, since dpreview seemed to like the WB210 apart from the touch screen.

Yes, DPR is everything. Amazing how selective you bunch are.

It's a junk cam. The shots from it I see on their facebook usually have massive overexposures, so since it's so cheap and you're set on it, in the face of reason, I suggest you buy it.

Why do you say that Samsung's compacts are junk? I've taken a lot of decent pics with my WB210. See my gallery.

Here's one I shot yesterday.

Re: pl210: any experience?

I would discount any of snake_b's comments on compacts. He bites anyone who mentions compacts on this forum. The problem is this is a shared forum so you have people with the top end cameras mixing with the consumer cameras which does not really work. I think he does know his stuff but his opinions are somewhat polarised.

Re: pl210: any experience?

Why? I have two compacts from Samsung and follow their path and I actually go and check out what they have at local stores from time to time.

The problem is they are making cams with massive gimmicks and half-arsed ways to compete with cell phone cams and stuffing megapixels like there's no tomorrow, so even ISO80 is a smeary mess. Cellphone cams are oddly more reasonable than picking up one of these cams that are picking off certain features of cellphones, but without the functionality of them, especially with apps.

Re: pl210: any experience?

Samsung are not the only culprits. I just do not like the way you take it out on Samsung compact users that post on this forum. I hate this pixel stuffing as much but you could be a bit more diplomatic in how you put it. Mayogeezer who posted the MV800 photos did not build the camera and posted interesting pictures but you trashed his camera as junk. He is still active and enjoying the camera but wisely avoiding this forum by the looks of it. Not everyone uses ISO 800 which is not exactly spectacular on the NX11/100.

Re: pl210: any experience?

LOL. I'm not taking anything out on anyone specific. Go look at the Panasonic forum, for instance, when talking about the MP wars.

I'm sorry you don't like how I post, but I will not assume the e-personality you want for me.

Also, your argument is flawed, as it follows the typical pattern that when someone speaks about a possession, it's an insult to the person that owns it. That's wrapping too much into possessions. Being "diplomatic" is nonsense. It only says you're sensitive and can take the news, but only when you're coddled? When did the world become so soft?

Re: pl210: any experience?

I hear what you're saying about gimmicks and megapixels but all the manufacturers are doing that. Still, my little Samsung can produce good images at reasonable viewing/printing sizes. It's very tiny and light, and has a versatile zoom range of 21-288 mm. I even like the touch screen.

I use one of my DSLR's when I don't mind the extra weight.

Re: pl210: any experience?

Snake, re-read your second message to Shademaster. Kind of personal and insulting, I'd say.

I'm not a Samsung fan boy, by the way. I own several different makes of camera and I agree with you that Canon makes good compacts.

Re: pl210: any experience?

Hi Dan,

last year we had short contact because of upgrading the firmware of the WB210. I'm sure, you remember. Have you solved these problems ? Which firmware do you use now?

I just looked at some of your WB210-pictures and have to say, the problem of too much light in the lights, which i still have got, seems to be no problem for your cam (or for your firmware).

The last update i made at the beginning of this month - but the same problem. Now again there is a newer firmware at the samsung-site. I will try this one immediately after this post.

Greetings from Germany !
