Someone saw an engineering sample of the new Fujifilm mirrorless camera

Please don't ask me more about it because I don't know anything more than what I will say below. The following is what sketchily emerged from this sighting:

(1) The camera body is all metal, in fact seen in bear metal without exterior covering in the front.

(2) It has a viewfinder, but nothing inside the viewfinder was observed.

(3) It has a "View Mode" switch button (an important hint to the viewfinder)

(4) The top shutter speed is 1/4000 with no markings for x-sync speed (hope it is a global shutter with all-speed synchronization, but this is just my speculation)

(5) The body has a traditional flash shoe on the top.

(6) Judging from the size of the lens mount hole, the sensor is more likely smaller than full frame, but can't be sure (because although the camera is quite compact, it is not tiny and is large enough for a full-frame sensor).

(7) Three fast single focal lenses are being made: a 18mm/2.0 pancake, 35mm/1.4, and one with a longer focal (possibly 60 mm). Based on the selection of these starting focal lengths, especially the 18mm/2.0 pancake, I am almost sure it's not a full frame sensor. Very likely a smaller sensor, probably APS-C. It's all speculation, but read on.

(8) The camera uses a completely new sensor technology, presumably the Organic CMOS which has been developed by Fujifilm during the last 5-6 years. Fujifilm already said that the new sensor will have lowlight performance that rivals the current best full frame SLR sensors. And based on what I read about the Fujifilm's revolutionary Organic CMOS, I have no reason to doubt this claim.

Sounds interesting ...

... but it will probably be some more months before we actually will have product in hand, I guess. Especially the new sensor technology will be of interest.

I love anything that comes from the xitek forums. They're pretty much spot on each time.

OVF/EVF toggle

The 2nd last image in this link clearly shows the OVF/EVF toggle.

It isn't bare metal on the front.
You can clearly see the fixing points for whatever panel/grip goes on the front.

Re: Someone saw an engineering sample of the new Fujifilm mirrorless camera

OMG OMG!! Optical viewfinder (most likely similar to X100) with interchangeable lenses in a classically styled body!! I'm in love with the concept of it and will most definitely be first in line to buy one of these bad boys.

I'm hoping for something larger than APS-C but Fuji does manage to eek out amazing DR and performance out of their sensors. The X100 is amazing for technically being an older sensor, so I can't wait to see what this new organic CMOS technology has to offer!

Those three prime lenses are also the perfect complement to form a solid system. Now my question is how the OVF works with different lenses. My guess is that the lens has a chip in it communicating the length which in turn either zooms the OVF to the correct length or changes the crop lines in the VF. I'm wondering if this kind of system will work with zoom lenses or if it will be more Leica like with primes.

Either way, everything I'm seeing and hearing about this camera is very positive!

Notice also on the 3rd picture down how the aperture is set on the actual lens. Kind of like the X100 and Leica cameras.

Re: Someone saw an engineering sample of the new Fujifilm mirrorless camera

This would suggest APS-C size as that would give us 28mm, 50mm and 90mm which would be a nice range of primes. Anything close to FF wouldn't make sense for the portrait lens.

Re: The Price is Right ... How much will this camera sell for ?

Well the X10 and X100 have both been very competitively priced for all they have to offer as well as build quality so I'm guessing this camera will be in the price range of the NEX-7 for body only. If the sensor is really something special and revolutionary then it might be closer to $2000 is my guess.

Oh My... It never ends.

A few weeks after picking up my own X100 last April I came to the startling conclusion that I would not need to purchase another camera for a long long time. My 5D II and assortment of lenses was packed up and used as back up or speciality shooting (macro mostly with the 100mm) - This from a guy who bought a new camera or two every year for the last ten years since converting to digital. Upgrade, upgrade upgrade... but with the X100 I was finally satisfied.

Darn I can see myself once again. Can hardly wait for the Vegas photo show, will be googling everything for any scrap of info, name on waiting list, waiting waiting waiting. Here we go again.

Interchangable lenses, F 1.4, best low light of any DSLR. Fuji you are killing me.

The 6 photos were taken with a Sony Ericsson (SEMC) X10i Android cell phone.

I don't see a RAW button in the photos.

Thanks for the update, Steve. Will you post your link to Fuji's organic sensor patent here too? You may want to do that rather than leaving it to someone else who looks at photo rumors' reader comments.

Re: More details - LX body for $1400

I must say this looks VERY promising. Fuji UNDERSTANDS photographers better than almost anyone out their (maybe except for Leica if you love MF). The X100, I'm about to pull the trigger on that. The X10 looks to be a killer compact, although not much smaller than the X100, but with a smaller sensor and zoom, it could be a great camera as well.

It is VERY clear to me that Fuji is an innovative company with strong design, strong ergonomics and marching to the beat of a different, albeit traditionally styled, drummer. I love it!

Re: Someone saw an engineering sample of the new Fujifilm mirrorless camera

just 2 points i will looking forward to the new Fuji mirrorless

1. aps-c or bigger size ccd / cmos
2. new tech (multi-layer) ccd / cmos

if fuji keep using the cmos from x100

i won't consider for it
