5N and Sigma 8-16 or 10-20

Has anyone tried the 5N with the Sigma 8-16 or 10-20? Just curious.

Thanks, Rich

Doesn't really make much sense because you can't control the aperture.

Yes you can, but not precisely.

The Nikon mount version of at least the 10-20 can be controlled with the aperture ring on a Nikon G / Nex adapter. But, it has no clicks or stop markings, so you either have to guess what aperture you're at, or calculate it based on the meter reading wide open and stopped down.

Here's a shot I took with the 18-55 VR DX lens from my wife's D5100. And, no, it's not anything great, nor was it intended to be... just playing around with the lens and adapter to see how it would work.

I have the pentax mount 10-20 and an adapter that allows control over the aperture and it performs better than my epl1 but I'm not sure yet if worth it yet- I'll get around t0 posting some pics eventially.

Re: 5N and Sigma 8-16 or 10-20

My wife's 10-20 Nikon mount Sigma came in today, so I got to try it out with the Fotasy Nikon G adapter (just to prove it works).

Here are a couple of quick shots. The bananas one is stopped down a little and a normal shot, while the cameras one is stopped down a fair amount and taken with hand-held twilight. Both are at 10mm and pretty close focus.

By the way, the copies of the 10-20 currently shipping do not look like the one shown on Amazon. Instead they have a focus ring that's always coupled to the focusing system, but has easy slip. So, no AF/MF switch, just use the manual focus anytime you want. I saw that some people didn't like this, but I don't really see a down side to it.

They work great, but are bulky. The Sigma 8-16mm can't use filters. It is fairly small aperture, f/4.5-5.6, so at 16mm it is 2 stops smaller aperture than the Sony 16mm f/2.8, but performs a bit better. If you plan on doing a lot of shooting with that lens it would be better to have an SLR body for it I would expect, but it will work just fine on the NEX.

Not getting even field of focus after some more test shots. Any suggestions?

I use Sigma 10-20mm on Nikon D90 and CV Heliar 15mm f4.5 on NEX-5N. I like the Sony combo MUCH more. Significantly sharper and more contrasty (especially in the corners), less distortion, better color, easy to handle. About the same amount of vignetting as Sigma, no purple shift. Just set at f5.6 or 8 and hyperfocal distance, then point-and-shoot. Not to mention the form factor. Sigma is pretty large and heavy, CV is tiny and looks like made for NEX.
