Re: What's the largest size Cf card you own?

I have three 8Gb cards plus a couple of smaller ones. I have yet to fill an 8Gb card in a day of shooting. When I'm on a trip, I make a point of switching to a different card at the end of each day, to spread my photos over different cards and minimize the risk of losing everything if one of the cards goes bad or gets lost.

I have 2 - 4GB extreem cards

It keeps me thinking and calculating. Just a personal discipline. I have a card dump I carry with me in case I fill both up (rare) but I still used the card dump as it transfers files faster to my computer than a card reader.

All my CF cards are the same size, just big enough to fit in the camera

Thanks for that one. I think you are the only one who answered the question right.

Re: 8 GB cards here.... I get 597 shots

on a an 8 gig card I have 8 of them plus 2 4gigs and 2 2 gigs and 10 1 gigs.

On my trip to Yellowstone last month I filled the 8 gigs with over 4700 shots. Most were tossed out in View NX2
Put a 4 gig in for the trip home but never shot anything on it.
After that I see no reason for bigger cards than that.

Re: What's the largest size Cf card you own?

I have 6 8gb Extremes and 8 4gb Extremes. I shoot lots of sports, with lots of shots. A typical night might consist of a women's basketball game, followed by the men. I have rarely gotten beyond 3 8gb cards, shooting 2 D300's. I failed to fill up all my capacity on a week long trip to Ireland. I don't see me moving on to anything larger.

Re: What's the largest size Cf card you own?

Just bought 2 SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro CompactFlash Card from B&H for $59.99 each.
Amazing price now, compared to what they were going for a year or so ago.

I stick with the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards and have not experienced a problem. I've been using 2, 4 & 8 GB cards until now and they are sufficient, but have been shooting more HDR lately and went with the largest card I felt comfortable with.

Re: Based on this topic........

given that most people in this thread don't see a need for much more than an 8gb card why the constant increases and stoppage of producing the lower sized cards.

When I check new cards I can't even find options available for the card sizes I want.

I understand the constant increases in storage properties and card sizes.

But, seriously I'd love to see affordable cards with good transfer speeds at the 8gb card size.

8 or 16 gb card sizes with high transfer speeds would make me very happy and I'd buy multiples of those cards. Especially given my future camera purchases. I don't see myself ever buying a 64gb card for anything!

Perhaps I'm different........but, based on this forum post I'd say that most all of us are pretty serious and not interested in huge card sizes.

All about the money?

I should really rephrase a couple of my points here.

I have checked Newegg and a couple of other places.

The cards I want and use are still available. Yet there has been no additional development done to increase transfer speeds in the lower sized cards.

If I remember correctly the 8gb extreme Sandisk card is $60 and it's 3+ year old technology and transfer speeds.

The 8gb cards I use (sandisk) are 30mb per second which is 1/2 the speed of the "extreme" cards and if anything their price has actually increased slightly since the last time I purchased. Important to note that I haven't had to buy any of these cards for about 2 years.

8GB and 16GB compact flash cards are available from Lexar in their UDMA Professional range. Do they come any faster in any type of brand?

Cheers

Re: Based on this topic........

I was whining and moaning about low level cards.

I just ordered a 8gb Sandisk 60mb/s card from B&H for $35.00

Double the speed of my existing 8gb cards for roughly the same price.

this will become my primary card. (free shipping too).

Guess they (at least sandisk) are updating "smaller" cards. This 8gb card wasn't available 2 days ago when I checked on Newegg.

Happy to see it now. I will order more assuming this card functions properly in my existing bodies.
