No printer recognized on iMac

I have an Epson 2400 connected to an iMac with a firewwire cable 6 pin connector at the printer and 9 pin connector at the iMac. But the printer is not recognized. In System Preferences at Print and Scan no printers are available and clicking the + sign brings up no printers.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks. That occurred to me, too. Just means I have to take myself out and buy another cable. But, why shouldn't the first cable work?

Re: No printer recognized on iMac

No idea, I never used a firewire with a printer before. Never owned a printer with firewire cable...

Do I need an updated print driver?

Do I need to update the print driver? I've looked at Epson support but there does not appear to be a driver available for Lion.

connecting via Firewire is rare and unless you can get the FW driver, you're going to be out of luck.

a USB cable is short money, get one

Re: Do I need an updated print driver?

After much gnashing of teeth and a bit of swearing I downloaded a printer driver from Epson. Able to print now.
