My a77 just became faulty.

Hello,

Well what happened is I was playing with my new toy when suddenly it stopped working, then I switched it on and since then I'm able to see only black screen or go to the menu, where I can't change anything. Tried everything, taking off battery, connecting to pc ( couldn't do even that)

Please help
thanks

Sometimes when I restart the camera, it looks that everything is fine until I press DISP button, the icons which appears on the screen look all messed up, only half of them that it used to be before( around 3 hours). When I try to take a pic, the screen becomes black again.

Try

Taking the lens off, cleaning the contacts, putting it back on. Long shot, but, maybe...

Don't be aggressive with the cleaning! Just polish the contacts a bit with clean cotton or microfiber cloth.

Is the battery

Fully charged? Did you fully charge it before starting to play?

Re: Is the battery

Is something wrong with the A77s, design wise?

In this thread http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/my-new-a77-died-after-30-minutes_topic80040_page1.html there are other similar problems. It may not be click click click, but it seems something may be wrong with the A77 too.

Hopefully not but...

For the time being, I am holding back placing an order until the situation clears.

Sounds like it's faulty, sorry to hear that. Just out of interest, where is it made in if you don't mind, thank you.

Re: Is the battery

Yes, I received the camera yesterday, left the battery for charging up and went to sleep. In the morning took same pictures using sony 50 1.8 , minolta 70-210 and sony 18-55, everything was fine. Then in the evening came back home from work, played with the camera for a couple of hours and then it started to behave strange

Re: My a77 just became faulty.

I'd say a firmware problem. Someone else posted people in Hong Kong who had similar problems.

Send it back

Send it back That's why I don't like to buy any product when it first comes out. Let others work the bugs out.

Time to take it back for exchange or refund...

I'm out of ideas.

Time to take it back for an exchange.

Sorry!

Does sound like at least one other guy, who posted at dyxum, has the same problem.

Really a bummer.

Where are you located and who did you buy it from? Hopefully it will be a no hassle exchange!

Re: My a77 just became faulty.

If it is a firmware issue, I would think that is something that Sony would jump on quickly and be available for an updated download correct? And speaking of software, does the A77 ship with any Sony photo editing software? (And if it does, is it any good?)

Re: Is the battery

It is firmware problems

Many people from Taiwan and Hong Kong has reported the same things.
The camera suddenly stop working once a day to 3 times a day.

Why is Sony shipping the camera with FW bugs?

They need to fix all the kinks first
