A77 Firmware BUGssss.. ~~!

Many people from Taiwan and Hong Kong, has reported that the Firmware V1.02 contains lots of Bugs.

Taiwan:

Hong Kong:

Summary:

1, All the AF point disappear suddenly, and could not switch off the camera and could not change some of the setting within the menu.

2,The camera hang suddenly and you have to remove battery and restart the camera.

3,A few people has put a Sigma lens on the camera and all the focus point loss forever.
No more AF for any lens(include Sony's), and need to return to CS to fix it.

4,It needs more than 10sec to turn off the camera.
Sometimes you turned off the camera, but it is still working,
the battery drop from 9x% -> 9% after a few hours.

5, The orientation of the menu does not show correctly.

6,The Aperture & Shutter setting malfunction suddenly, need to remove battery and restart the camera.

7,The position of the electronic level shift to the top part of the LCD. Need to restart the camera to back to normal position.

8,The camera hang during shooting in high speed mode .

I have just ordered one from Hong Kong, and it will arrive Japan next Monday.
I just hope Sony could update the firmware and solve all the problem ASAP.

Re: A77 Firmware BUGssss.. ~~!

Apart from the camera taking 2-3 seconds to switch off I haven't noticed any other problems so far.

Kinda hoping

that there is a new firmware that just didn't make it in time for shipping, but was planned for release, when the camera was originally due (mid-Oct).

Sounds like Sony rushed the shipping to compete I guess, but screwed up the firmware.. roll-on 1.02B+ please.

Actually the video is correct only someone has played it backwards. Nikon wishes they could eassily morph theirs into "ours!"

This is certainly not good news.

Today Wilf's camera crashed:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1037&message=39435624

butirka's camera crashed yesterday:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1037&message=39432671

And another over at Dyxum:

http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/my-new-a77-died-after-30-minutes_topic80040_page1.html

And now your reports from Hong Kong and Taiwan. I tried wading through those forums on Google translate and could not really tell how many cameras were impacted. But both threads sounded like more than one camera each. I didn't see the thread where a firmware update fixed the problem.

How am I supposed to know if this is Firmware or PCB or chip or what?

What is a loyal Konica-Minolta/Sony buyer supposed to think?!!!? I have an A77 that's supposed to arrive on Tuesday. Should I pick it up or tell them to keep it? The lens I use the most is an old Sigma 18-200. Is it going to scramble the new A77?

This sucks!

Decline it...don't accept shipment! Please! Let someone else enjoy

the camera. You are not equipped to be an early adopter.

I don't think it was intended as an insult. However it was the truth. Only one person can answer your question and that is "Russ Adams." Perhaps you are NOT ready to be one of the "early adopters" of this new camera. You may well regret it if you do take it. Sit on the side lines and wait for a while until the inner person inside you says "go for it!" Just remember for every complaint or episode of a defect or crash, there are 99 others who have no complaints and you simply never hear from them. People only post (most of the time) when they have a complaint.

Anyone going to wait for Firmware 2.0?

I'm thinking about waiting on this camera until they implement Firmware 2.0. Fix the bugs, upgrade high-ISO IQ . . . life's good!

Another insulting reply!

Wow.

Yet another insulting reply.

"You are not equipped to be an early adopter. "

Is it a requirement now that early adopters accept cameras that STOP WORKING?

This is not a BETA, PRE-PRODUCTION good.

This is supposed to be a PRODUCTION READY device.

If you think being an early adopter means it's OK for manufacturers to produce goods that DON'T WORK then you're part of the problem.

Re: A77 Firmware BUGssss.. ~~!

The camera system frozen and it didn't switch off. So I have to take the battery out. But then....I can't turn it on properly again ..eg. No display/ none of the button is working.

And seems like a lot of people from Hong Kong and Taiwan are having the same problem...sigh..sometimes it's not that great to get things early...Sony should pay us for testing it out!!

And this is not related to Sigma lens' problem...I'm using A77 Kit lens!!!

What?????

How about speaking while you're taking the video & explaining what you're trying to do & what you're supposed to get as a result.

You just look like you're fiddling with camera controls while playing that background music to keep the video interesting.

Explain it in details please.

Russ, I'm a little sorry that I didn't wait a while before buying. Sometimes it's wise to be cautious.

Re: What?????

I think everything is obvious, half of controls don't work, half of the icons on the screen are gone, camera is still working even if it's switched off, can't change anything in the menu.

Re: What?????

I just re-watched your vid... thx for the upload.

Is it still 'broken'? Or did it revert back to normal after you took out the battery, & placed it back in?

Re: What?????

I've tried everything, nothing helped. Now the camera is going back to the box and tomorrow I'll bring it back to Jessops.
