wanted: NEX adapter for Samsung NX lenses

With only 7.5mm flange difference, Samsung 30mm f/2 pancake and NEX would be nice and compact combo.

But I couldn't find this mount adapter anywhere.

Re: wanted: NEX adapter for Samsung NX lenses

If such an adapter existed it would be useless; it would not be possible to operate basic lens functions (like focus and aperture) of the NX lens when mounted on a NEX.

+1

Also, the Nex has a shorter registration distance (enabling proper register of a NX lens on a Nex however, as a result,) making the NX lens longer.

I use only MF legacy lenses on my NEX.

But what has that got to do with NX lenses?

A Samsung NX lens is not "legacy" - it is a current lens with no manual controls, and therefore useless off its home camera.

Whereas a Pentax lens bought 40 years ago is still useful (with an adaptor), these electronic-only lenses will be dead when the camera dies.

Just like the nex's lenses. That is, unless someone finds a way to convert the electronic pins of the camera.

Re: wanted: NEX adapter for Samsung NX lenses

It's not out of the realm of possibility (though highly unlikely to happen). Such an adapter would need to include an electronic interface like the Sony A-mount to E-mount adapter. You would need electronics to transcode the commands from the NEX to the Samsung lens. Aperture control should be possible; AF may be harder, but at the minimum you can have the electronics control the focus motors by the focus ring for MF.

Someone has already figured out how to control Canon lenses with an electronic adapter for the NEX (though no AF yet):

Exactly. That (and my dislike of "by wire" controls anyway) is the main reason I'm not inclined to spend money on expensive NEX-only lenses like the forthcoming Zeiss. If I wanted a Zeiss 24 I'd buy a ZM version that will still be a good working lens in 60 years time, just like one of the lenses I currently use on my NEX.

An EOS adapter is just a touch bigger (well, a lot actually) than a hypothetical NX adapter.

I'm using adapter for Nikon G lenses

it controls aperture of G lenses, I wonder similar method is possible with NX lenses.

Nikon G lens aperture is controlled mechanically, not electronically. There is no similarity.

Then there's the matter of focus...

Re: wanted: NEX adapter for Samsung NX lenses

if samsung release their mount details and spec it is possible to figure out what is needed to put in the circuit board and build a adapter for it... just need some guy with some extra time and access to a nex and a nx to work in his garage

but that is if samsung release those information....

it will still be a bigger lens however, which is why I noted it above. It's not entirely impossible, however still fairly fruitless. As Sony releases more lenses and may continue to use CA / geometric distortion in-camera (such as the 5n and 7 have and will have) you won't get similar out of the NX lenses. You will also have to use an adapter which makes it longer, as NX's have "thicker" bodies (longer register), making the lens itself again larger than it appears on the NX.

What?

What exactly is that supposed to mean? The adapter places the lens at the proper distance from the sensor so it can focus.

Of course, it cannot focus because it is a focus by wire lens.

I have to say that it wouldnt be a bigger lens... it will just be another nex lens

Of course, it cannot focus because it is a focus by wire lens.

The lens itself (from nex mount to front element) will be longer than it is on a NX, as a product of the adapter. The fact that the register is longer on a NX than a Nex is what allows it to be adaptable from a purely physical standpoint, but this fact also makes it longer in this regard than on a NX.

Most people don't measure lenses from plane to front element but rather from mount to front element, and as a result suggest Nex lenses are "huge."

Thus theoretically using a NX lens on a Nex would not solve any problems (albeit impractical).

As shown with the Canon EOS / Nex adapter, it's possible to allow electronic coupling, but again unlikely that the same group will make a living of making it for all Nex lens possiblities.

Cheers,

Unfortunately a smart adapter in order to make that tiny sammy change it's aperture and focus on the nex camera s is quite impossible to make.

But a dummy adapter shouldn't be that difficult to make, right?

Because I had a Samyang Fishy 8mm f/2.8 for my Samsung NX and because I also received an Sony a6000 i decided to try to adapt the fisheye to my nex. A little bit of DIY and I actually made it! ( I used the lenscap of the Sony A6000).
It's not perfect, but it focuses ffrom 3meters to infinity just fine. Test pics comings soon.
