SD1 as a 60MP camera!

Here is a 200% upscaled crop of what the SD1 looks like as a 60MP camera:

Click original to download. I would post the full 60MP but this site has a 20MP limit for some reason.

I think the SD1 makes pretty impressive 60MP prints! Check out the detail on the lower sleeve fabric. This was a handheld shot BTW, and not with a maximally sharp lens either.

Here's the original at 100% for reference:

Despite its pros/cons, supporters/detractors, the SD1 is unique and should become a classic in the years to come. I will definitely check back in a few years on eBay for a used SD1.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

Nope, I used the 50mm macro.

I'm really starting to think that the SD1 is a viable 60MP camera. The way you can upscale these images just doesn't compare to bayer.

You just need to use a good upscaling technique. Hint: do NOT use SPP double size

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

I never said it's a 60MP Phase One back!

I simply mean you can make a 60MP file that will print acceptably well. This thread should be evidence of that.

It's just a handheld snapshot, but I think the case has been made.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

I can see the potential of SD1 as a 60mp camera. At the minimum, it could do wonderful studio/still images. A camera is just a tool for the photographer. If one can maximize the features of SD1, why not?

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

the man in the photo has hair that goes from white gray, green and some magenta line....iq is something more than resolution, the color palette of the hair of your friend is terrible.
this camera is a 16 m aps camera with a messy color palette.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

Exactly.

Also, it's nice to have such a portable body with the capability of making decent 60MP files for printing.

The lens used for this snap was the tiny 50mm macro, which weighs 320g.

The SD1 is 700g, so the total weight is 1.2kg... which is nice and light, not to mention small.

Also, to Johnny:

  • the hair is exactly like that in real life!! some of the other issues are lens related, others are palette issues but are software related - nothing a camera profile can't fix. SPP is the problem, not the camera.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

yes sure...but the same apply for any other camera.
the pont is they are selling a ford at bmw prices. just this.

you can do everything you want with your money, but anybody , even pro won't buy this camera.
is not a case that in this foruym 80% of sd1 sample come from free cameras.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

im sorry but i doubt he has green blue white hair...even my pentax k5 can be upsized to 60 million and make "decent" print, what's the point? my k5 is 1000 dollar and is superiro to the sd1 in at least 80% of situation, and full of feature and with a superbuilt body.
i repeat to you. what's the selling point of this camera at 7000 dollar?
ZERO.

YOUR EXPERIMENT in addition show many flaws, the biggest is the time needed to PP any image to obtain nice color and sharpness.

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

Lol...this is going to be a funny discussion...for the record, no one needs to be a "pro" to discuss the cameras merits...btw, do you have a website? and how do you fell about your purchase? paying 7000 usd, do you think is a good or the best option on the market?

Re: SD1 as a 60MP camera!

and even i f you ar a pro what's the point? lack argument? i mean it's a month you post file, not a single photo interesting or that show any photo skill. it' s a month you tell everybody how superb this camera is , but nobody can see this, now you come with a post that tells us nothing, any 16 million camera can be upscaled to 60 million to produce " decent" images. what's the point of this post?
