Flying Legends (11 images)

Some of my favourites from the Duxford Flyiing Legends show on Sunday. All E520/E620 and 70-300/40/150

P51 Big Beautiful Doll RIP involved in a collision with the Skyraider in picture 2 in the last moments of the show. The P51 pilot bailed out safely but unfortunately Big Beautiful Doll is wrecked. The Skyraider pilot brought her back in safely minus 6 ft of wing.

Re: Flying Legends (11 images)

many very clever and unusual compositions,
suggests a penchant for this work beyond the upper level of offerings

but then, inexplicably some stopped props on some of the aircraft (?)
but ok, maybe that could be fixed in post

i like em a lot, its a big well done from me

Re: Flying Legends (11 images)

Thanks. the stopped props were a result of very varying light and I had to make a decison to get the shot with stopped props or risk not geting the shot.

Those are very nice. I also like to take pictures at our annual air show each summer. We often have cloudy weather too, which obviously affects the lighting and what shutter speeds we can achieve.

That's too bad about the P51 being wrecked like that. We had a jet airplane crash on a nearby house. The pilot died in that accident. That's always a worry at these air shows.

Hi Trevor

I always enjoy the pictures of those legends. In your case there's something plus in them, unusual perspectives and compositions, beautiful light and colors. Congratulations and thanks a lot.

Trevor,

Thank you for posting this excellent series. I never tire of viewing well done photos of these old warbirds. Nice job with the prop blur; it adds that much more to the image.

It's a shame about the loss of the P-51. Its a sad end to a beautiful airplane. I'm not surprised about the ruggedness of the Skyraider.

Are those Hawker Furies in #4?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I don't think they wanted me to say anything. It was just their way of having a bit of fun, the swines. Strange thing is they make such bloody good cameras.

Re: Flying Legends (11 images)

Wonderful photos, Trevor. Visited your Picasa page as well and really enjoyed your selection of subjects.

A nice demonstration of what the E-510 and E-620 along with the 40-150mm and 70-300mm lenses are capable of. I also use both bodies and these lenses (along with the kit 14-42mm and the 9-18mm) and love them.

Like the warbirds, the best way to keep these special now discontinued cameras alive is by continuing to show what they can achieve.

I also share your love for vintage sports cars and airplanes. Have you been to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio? If not, worth a visit:

Keep those photos coming!

The old F-15 could do it with just one wing:

Re: for those interested there is a video of the crash

but probably not without a horizontal surface of the tail, which is what the P51 lost

Shortly after the tail got cut and fell away, you can see the canopy come off as the pilot decided he was going to have to get out. But he stayed to steer it from the crowd before he bailed.

I was there in 1980 I expect it's changed a bit since but it was fantastic then.
