Nice series!
The two last ones are magnificent.
And what a beautiful DF that last one is!
Where are those taken?
And what lens is used here?

Erik, all but the Progomphus alachuensis (female) were taken in my back garden in Orlando, Florida. The one that wasn't taken in my garden was taken at a local park. The 70-300mm was used.

They are nice and sharp. Some of your dragonflies are quite colorful, more than what I can usually find where I live.

Question...

Jim, nice very nice. Question: did you have and used a tripod collar on the 70-300mm, as there are two versions to my knowledge? A heavy one from manfrotto and a German very light version.

Cheers Lou

Re: Question...

Don't have one. These were shot hand held. When I do use a tripod I find that the lens is so light that it isn't a problem mounting the camera and not the lens.

You're the dragonfly king!

These are very well done -- I am very impressed that these were hand held shots! I especially like the straight down shots as they really show off the symmetry, colors, and patterns on these beautiful creatures!

Keep up the excellent work -- your images are a very effective sales tool for the 70-300mm

God Bless,
Greg

I shoot in a burst which helps. I also try and get a few shots with the sensor plane on the same plane as the dragonfly. Lately I shoot a few at full zomm and then try and get closer and use a bit less zoom.
