Konica hexanon UC 28mm 1.8

I have recently acquired this lens from a pawn shop and I'm wondering what it's worth. I purchased it for 10$ which I thought was a steal. I think it's worth quite a bit more than that, but I'm just wondering how much more.

Any other information on this lens is welcome as I haven't found much on the net.

-Thx

If you bought it to sell at a profit, then I think you have probably wasted your money. It is a good lens I believe, but made to fit a not-very-popular make of 35mm SLR film camera....

... which kind of camera is now practically obsolete. Yes, some people are still using those kinds of cameras, but generally speaking, they are not using Konica ones.

Any other information on this lens is welcome as I haven't found much on the net.

The lens is worth something between 400 and 1200. Thanks for the link... ?

The lens is worth precisely what anyone is prepared to pay for it. You were prepared to pay just $10 Canadian... therefore that becomes the most recently verified price point for this lens.

Good luck getting any more.

Just because the crackhead lady that was running the pawn shop had no idea what she was doing does not make the lens less valuable. Just means that I won. This is a very rare and very high quality lens.

The quality is not disputed. It is almost certainly quite rare compared with Nikon/ Canon. But there are now millions of lenses out there that nobody wants anymore.....

.... and one of those least wanted is Konica.

Sorry, but there it is. If you want to prove me wrong, you must sell the lens for a profit. It doesn't have to be $400 or more. I will concede that the pawnbroker made a mistake if you manage to sell it for more than $50 Canadian.

Good Luck in your quest, but don't worry if you don't succeed. You are down $10 and up a paperweight.

There are millions of old lenses out there. A lot of them are 35-105 and 70-210 zooms that no one needs. A few are fast primes and some people want them. Those would be micro4/3 owners (Olympus PEN, Panasonic GF1/2, G1/2, GH1/2) who have a penchant for old lenses.

This lens can be fitted to a micro4/3 body with a $25 adapter. It will act like a fast normal lens (56mm effective focal length). Konica lenses are especially desireable om micro4/3 bodies because the required adapter is very short, so you still have a compact setup.

Good buy! Betcha you get that $50 easily.

Yes. A certain proportion of the owners of those cameras will have bought them in order to collect old lenses for use on them. Thing is, I don't think it is a very large proportion of owners ... (shrugs)

Maybe. At the very least, you have given OP somewhere to start looking for a buyer. If a sale happens, I expect to find out about it right here.

Presumably, ebay would be the way to go... ?

Here's a current auction. I was mistaken about $50 (what I would have offered). Woo hoo. It's at $275.

Now at this price point, I would have to say the price has gotten way out of hand, but the market is speaking.

Wow! Evidently so.... although we can agree that Ebay is not exactly a normal market.

However, is that the same lens? If so, it seems rather too large to serve as a normal f-length on m4/3... especially as it wouldn't be quite so sharp on the small format.

Anyway, that apart, the current price of $275 US is certainly more than I would have thought any sensible person would have forked out for that lens at this time....

... and you HAVE shown me to have underestimated what some people would pay!

I found this site selling a few of them.

There is still 4 days left for bidding. It will be interesting to see what the winning bid is.

The bidding ended at 696$

Awesome lens

10$ would be a steal for almost any decent lens... The 28/1.8 UC is a strong performer in the league of Nikons 28/1.4 AF-D, but sharper edge to edge from 1.8 on.

You can easily get a Konica AR to NEX / Micro Four Thirds / whatever... adapter or just get one of the beautiful Autoreflex T / T3 or FT-1 bodies and burn some film.

Konica, under all the manufacturers, is vastly underrated if you ask me.

Wow, If you really paid 10 dollars for this lens you are the luckiest guy on earth! This lens is worth AT LEAST $1000 and in Mint condition its worth 1500 all day. Konica makes some of the best glass, leica enthusiasts know that, many of them refer their M mount lenses to actual leica glass... and as far as AR mount Konica glass goes, this is THE LENS to have, its the best one, hands down, so let me put this in childs terms for Barrie, this is THE BEST lens in a stable of some of THE BEST LENSES ever made, period. I think Barrie was just jealous. Or a fool. Either way, not the guy to be! Congrats on your lens mate! Next time you score big lets hope that someone with half a brain is here to tell you about your new find huh?!

Re: Konica hexanon UC 28mm 1.8

Hexanon lenses were made for Konica's Reflex T series cameras, and subsequent AutoReflex (AR) T series. They were generally all very solid performers in their day and the T series could well have become a leading brand, had Konica gone after Nikon more aggresively, imho. Not sure about mount adapters for them to A mount, as the flangeback was quite deep i recall.

The rest is history. Anyone getting the chance to pick up and try an AutoReflex T4, with either 58mm f1.4, 25 or 85mm lenses will realise just how solid this kit was. Ready to take on 'Nam!.
