Thanks, but...

The difference in saturation is quite pronounced between the cameras. Did you use Velvia mode on the X100? Which one seems closer to the way you saw the scenes?

The EXIF data is stripped. Not really a comparison. (nm)

Yeah, the shots are all members of his Velvia set.

Thanks for that but I would love to see like for like RAW images with no pp whatsoever. Now that would be really good

I don't like Velvia mode, too strong colors. I think this mode has quite limited use, certainly not for all scenes. Bad comparison.

Re: X100 vs X1 samples

I agree this is only comparing JPEG engines and not even really that because of the velvia preset and as such tells you nothing

Re: X100 vs X1 samples

Agreed, if that was the X100's flattest output setting I'd be miffed as it's more contrast than I'd want.

However, since it's the Velvia mode, aka the most contrasty mode, it's not really an even comparison between the cameras.

I don't know either camera well enough to judge but it'd be good to see a comparison with both camera's flattest modes to really be able to see the differences in DR.

Re: X100 vs X1 samples

In every instance, I prefer the X100. You can never get shots which can be compared fairly side by side. But, there seems to have been no attempt here to be fair. No EXIF data only underscores this. There are some nice photos from the X100 floating around right now. These and 246-you's on flikr. But, EXIF is always stripped. Not impressed.

These pics tell me nothing about the X1 or how the X1 compares to the X100. It does, however, tell me that the X100 can take some beautiful photos and its Velvia colour palette is saturated without being over the top.

it proves that the x1 has a better dynamic range

and to my eyes the bokeh and the transition from shadows to highlights is much better on the x1.

Duh.

Are you serious? Let me give you a hint: contrast curves, exposure, jpeg. Take my hint and run with it grasshopper, and one day you too will graduate from the ranks of the digicam masses!

Re: Duh.

ok,I was kiddin, but the title say x100 vs x1 samples ,so you come here and compare both samples. it is a stupid comparison anyways.

Re: X1 vs X100

I prefer X1's bokeh, colors and overall IQ.
X100' Velvia colors are oversaturate and "synthetic" IMO,
bokeh is a little bit harsh and undeveloped.
Thanks for comparison.

Re: X100 vs X1 samples

Interesting, but why pick Velvia to compare to the X1? Regardless, the Velvia pushes colors and contrast a bit too much in some areas. What I find very interesting though is that the X1 seems to have this "film" over the pictures that give it a "cloudly" look. I'm not sure if this is the X100 lens being sharper or the difference in colors and contrast.

I would be very interested in seeing this test done with the standard JPEG's and more importantly, a RAW comparison.

Hopefully, Adobe releases an update soon so RAW comparisons can be on fair ground.

Re: X100 vs X1 samples

I seriously doubt the intension of the Flickr poster & his identity.

As someone who intend to make a choice among X100, X1 & GXR A12, I have virtually read most of the pics available so far on Flickr in their relative groups. Plus all those available for X100 so far on net.

The poster has the intension to downplay X1. These are some of the worst photos I have seen. Under-exposed, low contrast & dull colors - all contrary to the bright, vivid & crisp rendition of the Leica Elmarit 24mm lens. Just go to the X1 group & you can tell the difference.

He registered in March 2010. Upload some pics as base. No further photos then. And come back one year later with such X100 & drab X1 photos.

I wish to say that Fujifilms has very diligent marekting persons in different net forums. But most of the times, they are too forceful. Their overwhelming enthusiasm & dominant tones kill those who are really interested in learning more about the product - both its pros & cons.

People are discerning enough to realize about this. Don't u know & care ?

I concur. Never mind the fact that EXIF is suspiciously missing but this is nowhere near the rendering of X1 I have seen in hundreds of photos.
