Canon 5D mark III coming VERY soon :)

I have been looking for a 5D mark II for a couple of weeks now. Posted on a couple other threads about it being out of stock on newegg and other retailers. I posted that all best buys in my area have NONE in stock, except ONE location. went to that location and spoke with the manager about buying it. he dropped the price about 400 dollars. basically after talking for some time with him and getting to know him he told me no other best buys have the camera and NONE can be ordered from their website because the manufacture has stopped all shipments on it.
Basicly it is NOT OBTAINABLE from all best buys in the SAN DIEGO AREA!!!

he let me in on a little secret....mark III will be here by march.

I will be getting one, as long as this time it has...

more direct print buttons. Less accurate AF would be nice too. Please Canon, listen to your customers.

It's amazing because according to NewEggs page ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120307 ) 2 minutes ago....New Egg has them in stock.

Best Buy doesn't surprise me what with their expensive prices but up here in Portland...they are available not only at Best Buy off the shelf but also at some of the Professional shops. Costco still has them...go figure.

i'm more concerned about avaliability of lenses after the holidays...
waiting for 4 weeks now for my 16-35L II.

-but amazon has them in stock again since thursday, so my local dealer should get it soon (retailers selling it fo 1300€ and up always had stock left...)

concerning 5dMarkiii even if the new 5d arrives before the new canon flagship.. i'm not bothered, the 5dmarkii is brilliant.

It could be possible 5DIII is coming. 5DII is very difficult to buy in

Benelux - Europe also. The majority of the big stores do not have the markII in stock anymore since one month... (No body - no kits).

Re: Canon 5D mark III coming VERY soon :)

hopefully March 22. It's my birth date ;-)) But once it hits the streets, I will give it a two year time frame to get entirely "field tested" by early adopters...and then...I'll purchase it. My current 30D does well. But I am out for a very lowlight / high ISO specialist", which a 5Dii and 5Diii definitely are...

Good thinking, personally I will wait 4 years to make sure all problems are ironed out...

Re: dream on Canon is in NO hurry.

5D2 is still selling in BIG numbers and there is no competitor for the 5D2.

Sure there is Nikon with the D700, but that one is only 12MP and therefore in a different class.

Don't be surprised if Canon brings out something between 1D and 5D aimed at professionals for a pro price.

Then Canon can keep the 5D series as a high MP shitty AF camera aimed for prosumers and cinema enthousiasts.

I have no faith in the rumor of the 5D2 being replaced soon.

Look what happened with the 1Ds, should have arrived last Photokina but isn't introduced yet.

Best Buys have never sold 5DMIIs in our area (Northern Boston)

One thing is in the northern Boston area the most expensive cameras Best Buy sells are 7Ds. I have never seen a 5DII at any Best Buy ever. They have even only recently started selling 7Ds. If you wanted a 5DII in Boston you always had to go to a specialty shop or order online with BandHphoto or Adorama well or whoever else sells it online. B and H still has them in stock by the way.

The only news I see immediately is a store manager claiming the 5DMIII will arrive soon and he may be right of course, but he could also be wrong. What the chances are I am not going to make any claims.

Another thing is for a while they were selling the 50Ds alongside the 60Ds at our Best Buys.

Also I am missing that the 1Ds MIV has so far not been introduced. So far Canon always introduced the next generation 1Ds prior to introducing the next generation 5D.

Ok don't get me wrong I am not saying the 5DMIII won't arrive soon and I appreciate sharing the info from the store manager because maybe he is right, who knows. I guess I just don't see the signs right now.

For myself I am quite happy with my 5DMII, so if a revised version comes out I will first wait and see how the upcoming owners like it and what the press says.

Of course if you don't own a comparable camera yet it would be worth considering waiting till March and seeing if there is a new 5D.

Best Buys in Portland must be more upscale than the Boston ones....

or not... (supply & demand)

A friend of mine was out to buy a new 5D mk II - he looked in local internet shops and physical stores... No one had it in stock (at a reasonable price) and most quoted delivery times of 4-6 weeks!

At last he found a shop who had a few in stock, and they were sold out within the week...

But... this was a year ago! So one year ago Canon stopped the production? No! What you are seeing is just the fact that Canon still can not produce as many mk II as the market demands!

And, from the time Canon announces a new product untill the product is a regular on the shelves usually takes 2-3 months, and it has been seen in many other cases that Canon actually still delivers the old model camera at least for a while after the successor has been released! By that logic the 5d mk II should still be in production at least untill the mk 3 will be anounced and maybe even longer!

sounds like a funny story

Sounds like a funny made up story. That would be a poor "manager" that would drop a price on a product by $400 and tell the customer it can't be ordered nor found in this area. That should be a reason to keep the current price - can't be found - per your story.

Re: sounds like a funny story

Best buy employees rarely know anything about stuff that is in stock, why would you take them serious about something that is not even released yet?

I agree with everything above - the 1Ds releases always preceded the 5D. Where is it? Look also at how Canon split up the ?0D series in two. This may well be the moment it happens with the 5D line. I'm not the first one to speculate about it

I'm waiting to upgrade from the original 5D, which was a camera with slow shooting speed and uncompromised image quality which suited me well. I only wish for a significant dynamic range and ISO improvement (+ uninterrupted movie while taking stills and global electronic shutter video), not shooting speed or autofocus. Swivel screen would be nice, as well as lower weight. So maybe a full-frame equivalent to 60D with new type of sensor, at a lower price point than the current 5DII. Then a faster-shooting and focusing version (the full-frame equivalent to the 7D) could be introduced at higher price point than the current 5DII.

Release sequence guess: if Canon releases a 1Ds IV, a high-spec new 5D will not be introduced for a long time, and the reverse. A low-spec new 5D will not be the first to be released as it makes insufficient impression, the current 5D II may as well be kept for longer. If the 5D line is not split in two, a new 5D seems unlikely to be released first because fewer customers will then be interested to buy into a subsequent 1Ds IV, unless that new 5D still has the disadvantages of the current one with respect to the 1Ds series.

Re: I will be getting one, as long as this time it has...

Maybe if they put a smaller LCD Screen they can fit more Direct Print buttons (Great for people with more than 1 Printer) but the part that will be hard to do will be to make the AF less accurate....

Of all the people in the entire world

Only one store-level, non-executive Best Buy employee knows anything about the successor model to the 5D II. And he seems to know everything.

Isn't that simply amazing?

And since this information is on the Internet, it must be true.

Not to worry, the 5D IV is also on the horizon along with the 5D V, 5D VI and......
I still love my original 5D.

just checked MY local stores (not costco etc)

plenty of 5D2's in stock in Vancouver BC.

everyone here seems to want the rumor to be true, that the 5D3 will be coming out early this year.

IF it comes out this year at all, I would expect it would be more likely to come in early november or december, to cash in on the xmas shoppers.

besides, it has only been two years and six weeks since deliveries of the mk2 began (Dec 3, 2008 - I got mine on Dec 4, 2008)..

the 5D2 is STILL selling very well, there is no real reason for Canon to kill it yet.
