Pretty cool.

How did you come by this information and do you have any idea what the other values are?

Re: How to see shutter count on E-PL1

Your "friend" must work for Olympus or a repair center. No way that anyone outside Olympus could figure that code out to get the shutter to show. It's ashame that Olympus resorts to hiding it this way, when all other manufacturers show at least the shutter count to the customer. I got 2174, very low count. Now I can put my camera up on ebay and show shutter count, and order EPL2. Thanks.

Here is explaination of the other codes. It's same as other Olympus camera:

Re: How to see shutter count on E-PL1

Brilliant, been searching for that!

Just now dredging around other Oly cameras "secret information" and will add to my E-PL1 page later when it all makes more sense....

One source says the M item is to do with sensor cleaning (on DSLRs) and another says M is to do with pixel mapping. But the real shot count R and flash count S and the turn on count U makes most sense to us.

Other counters.....

Also, there are a lot of info like number of flash fires, number of ultrasonic shaker used, pixel mapping, etc

This seems to work on the E-P2 as well

The same sequence seems to work on the E-P2 as well. I would suspect it may work on the E-5. Thanks.

Re: How to see shutter count on E-PL1

My pleasure guys, and thanx to John for the other codes.
I think this might work for E-5 too.
Hope to see someone telling us in this thread or forum soon

Now on my web page.....

The basic method now glued to my page at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/02-epl1-comments.html#shotcount and in my case I left it at this for the moment.........

..........quote...............
What we are looking for is the information on Page 2, on my E-PL1 it shows.....
R 001936 [total shot count]
S 000047 [shot count with flash]
C 000000
U 000927 [turn on count which is ultrasonic wave cleaner count]
V 000000
B 001905 [hmmm, can't work out what this might be]
L 000000
..............unquote....................

I've seen a couple of different ideas as to pixel map count item, some showed it as item M.

The B item above is very likely the number of shutter presses and the R item the number of times the shutter has actually run. This makes sense to me as I very rarely use burst mode, more testing later to prove if that's what it is.

Re: Now on my web page.....

If C is the pixel mapout counter, it does not work because I've mapped hot pixels out on my E-P2 and the counter still shows 0000.

Page 2 item B

From experimenting right now the Page 2 info seems to mean....

R = number of shutter actuations

B = number of times shutter button is fully pressed, and that includes the shutter press count when doing this entry to the service menus.

Many thanks again to the OP for getting this information out to the world. Sorry Olympus Service People, but this is very important info to some of us.

Re: Other counters.....

Everything works for me up to step four. After I press info-> ok and the screen loads (mine says 02 01 01 01 by the way), pushing in the other combo doesn't seem to do anything. I still remain on that screen.

Re: Other counters.....

y2bd, after step for and Olympus interface info appear, continue to step 5, press up, down, left, right, shutter, and Up.. not too fast.. It should works..

[my 04 01 01 01 might have something to do with having the 35mm macro lens on at the time, I'll check that later]
[edit... tried all sorts of lenses and adapters and no change to 04 01 01 01]

From my web page....
► Press INFO and then press OK and on my E-PL1 this shows on screen....
OLYMPUS E-PL1
04 01 01 01
► Press in sequence UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/SHUTTER/UP and Page 1 info appears

► Variously press RIGHT for Page 2, DOWN for Page 3, LEFT for Page 4 and UP again to get Page 1

In fact after you get that "OLYMPUS E-PL1" screen then UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/SHUTTER press sequence leaves you at the point where pressing RIGHT gives you Page 2 with the important stuff on it.

I haven't had it trip up yet, works every time, just make sure it's a full shutter press and not a weak half press.

On my old Oly E-300 that crazy up-down-left-right sequence seemed to be a bit time critical and too fast or too slow and it failed, but the E-PL1 seems OK if always done at a steady pace, yet to try too slow and too fast presses.....

Just tried the too fast and too slow options and it all still worked OK.

Regards...... Guy

In page 1 I get B:1000 for E-P1, maybe 1000 means PEN in general?
Page 1, U:1402 0000
1400 A898

Do these CCD codes signofy the stronger AA filter on E-P1, therefore bein different to E-PL1?
For lens (L, page 1) I get 1100 100A for the 20mm Panny.

In page 2, your descriptions of R, S and U seem to be correct. I'm not sure about C though, as I have done pixel mapping but I get 000000 for it.
