The wavy effects are called a Moiré pattern ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern ) caused by the creation of an interference pattern between the weave of the furniture fabric and the recording resolution of the camera. The effect is also called "strobing" but isn't related to strobe lights.

Your problem isn't your camera, it's math.

Good demo of the effect.

To eliminate it, try zooming in closer or further. That might help. However, TV newscasters avoid wearing clothing with narrow stripes and small patterns just to prevent this effect. There's no in-camera fix except to move the camera/change the zoom so that the fabric pattern isn't so close in size to the horizontal pixel pitch.

Another thing that might (and will help) is stopping down the lens further - then diffraction will slightly soften the image which you'll never notice in a video but the fine detail which is causing the moiree to appear would be eliminated accordingly.

I have not really noticed diffraction when shooting video, because the magnification is so much lower than when you shoot 18mp.

Another way to minimize this effect is to slightly defocus the lens. The very slight blur shouldn't show up in a 2MP (video) image but will be enough to mostly eliminate the interference patterns you are seeing.

Here's another good example. Watch the ladies jacket.

And here's a video of someone testing a product whose purpose is to minimize moire:
