NRW thumnails on a Mac
Hi All,
Is there a was to be able to see NRW thumbnails on a Mac? Are they viewable on a PC?
Ric
On a Mac, if you navigate to the NRW files via Finder and highlight them, pressing the spacebar will bring up the picture as a quick preview (this will also work with most other file types, not just imaging ones). You can move among the files to view by pressing the up and down keys.
You may think that - I couldn't possibly comment.
Thanks Stevie but that doesn't work. The preview is only a larger version of the generic icon.
Unless you are running the latest version of Mac OSX and have the latest Camera RAW support for OSX then there is no guarantee you'll be able to open RAW files in the Finder.

I can open the file from the finder; by double clicking it will open in Capture NX2. The problem that I have is that I can't see what the picture is until I open it. NEF files show an icon of the picture in thumbnail view. Is it like that for everyone? or can the people who have the latest version of Aperture or iPhoto see the picture in the finder thumbnail view?
Further to my previous post. I am not an expert but I THINK that the ability to handle different RAW files is 'embedded' within the O/S, not the software itself - despite the fact that RAW upgrades are always advertised as an upgrade to the imaging software. This may just be an I.T technicality as to where the upgrade files are stored - I'm not sure.
You mention that you cannot see a thumbnail in finder - I can (which will go almost full screen with the spacebar, as my post) but that is no doubt due to the fact that I'm running the latest NX2 and Aperture 3 editions - as well as the latest Snow Leopard. The latest Aperture 3 update included support of the P7000 NRW files and these do show the thumbnail itself via Finder.
I hope that you get sorted.

Thanks Stevie. The only thing that I lack from your list is Aperture, so I guess that the raw file (that can only be loaded with Aperture or iPhoto (latest versions)), is what gives the OS the ability to display NRW thumbnails.
Yeah, you need to have the latest version of iPhoto or Aperture 3 or the OS wont download the newest version of RAW compatibility.

One way to get me to update iPhoto . . . . . or maybe I'll try a 30 day trial of Aperture. Who knows, maybe I'll like it and keep it.
After I upgraded iPhoto, the NRW thumbnails displayed correctly (like NEF), but since I upgraded to Lion, the thumbnails are generic. Anyone else have the problem or know how to correct it?
Sorry. It appears that I was being impatient. The NRW thumbnails eventually appeared.
The NEF's appeared immediately though.
