Sigma 10-20 doesn't focus in live view on D7000

Has anyone else experienced this? Just tried last night, AF does not work (it tries to focus, but always ends up out of focus). Focus through the viewfinder is flawless.

Not a big deal, as I don't think that live view focus is worth much anyway, but still a bit annoying. Anyone else have this lens with the D7000 who can confirm?

Cheers

Re: Sigma 10-20 doesn't focus in live view on D7000

my sigma 10-20mm on my Nikon D3100 doesn't focus on live view too..

I guess we will just have to focus manually when we do video..

but i contacted sigma about it if they can do some firmware/re-chipping update..

please contact them too.. the voices of many will make a difference

Re: Sigma 10-20 doesn't focus in live view on D7000

I have seen someone complain about broken focusing by D7000 when using Sigma 105/2.8 macro which worked on D90.

Just sent them an email. It would be very nice if this can be addressed with a firmware update.

On that note, how does one upgrade the lens firmware on a Nikon? Can Sigma lenses be updated in the same way as Nikkors?

Yes, my D7000 does not focus in LV with Sigma 10-20 and Sigma 30/1.4. Sigma 50-150/2.8 II focuses fine.

So I got a reply from local Sigma service center, rough translation:

1)10-20/4-5,6 should work in LV from Serial Number:2262801 and higher.
2)30/1,4 should work in LV from Serial Number:2100001 and higher.

There is no firmware update from the manufacturer for the models with lower SN that would solve this problem.

Oh, that is definitive deal breaker for D7000 as I have 30/1.4 below that SN (which works fine on my D90).

Bummer....

I consider using contrast based focus on live view one of my "Best Shot Practices" that I always reccomend for those looking for ultimate sharpness in their files.

Stay on them (sigma) till they get it right. It is worth the extra effort.

Well that's too bad... my model is older than that. I also got a reply from Sigma, but mine told me that the engineers were working on it, and that they would have news within a couple of weeks. I didn't mention the lens' serial number, nor did the support rep ask for it.

Hopefully they can figure something out. It's not a deal breaker, but if I am to use anything in live view, it would tend to be wider lenses.

Cheers

Re: Sigma 10-20 doesn't focus in live view on D7000

My 10-20 and 30 1,4 also has lower serial number.

And I have 50-150, 50 1,4 18-50 2,8 105 macro and 150-500 as well

So it is not just the AF-F video which does not work with Sigma lenses but also the LV focusing is no go.

That is a real bummer.

Sigma 17-50mm does AF in LV. I also have a Sigma 50mm which does not AF in LV.

Here's something odd...

I have three Sigma Lenses... 10-20 HSM, older 105 f2.8 macro with aperture ring, and 120-400 OS HSM.

I tried all three on my D7000 in live view.

10-20 - Nope, no autofocus
120-400 - No autofocus

older 105 macro non HSM with aperture ring - YES. Autofocus in live view works great. It was actually pretty quick even though it's not an HSM lens.

Hmmmmmmm!

Re: Here's something odd...

30mm f/1.4 --> NO
50mm f/1.4 --> NO
85mm f/1.4 --> YES!!

What should I do? return the lens or wait for a fix from Sigma (if it's even possible)?

Re: Here's something odd...

Hmm probably just because it is not a HSM lens.

The older HSM systems are not comparable the new ones are OK. Probably.

I think this intentional from Nikon part, punishing those cheap souls how buy third party lenses (like me )

Re: Here's something odd...

Because the 85 1.4 is new.

I doubt Sigma will have a solution for this problem.

That is a problem with third party lenses. the original camera manufacturer can punish us
