Samyang 14mm...

The OP is referencing a new version of the 14mm with automatic, camera controlled, aperture. The existing Canon mount, just like the existing Nikon mount, is manually stopped down.

I was thinking the exact same thing - I have the 14mm on the Xmas shopping list, see :)

Then again, if a Canon-fit version is announced I'd expect the prices of the 100% manual to drop even further from their current "lofty" heights (£299 at UK Optics as an eg).

Honestly, though, for anyone considering this lens, we're pretty much OK with the full-manual and while having EXIF data is nice (not bothered about aperture control) I'd expect Samyang to ship a few samples with dodgy circuits, so maybe simpler IS better ...

Then again

How about Canon users, did someone forgot us? :(

I know stop down metering...but..we could have full metering functions and lens af chip incorporated... I hate second place!

Maybe that's coming next? I really wish they do the same for Canon mount, I have the Nikon version but I use it on the Canon body sometimes too with a adapter. for the price, I really don't mind to buy another dedicated Canon mount so I don't have to use adapter and stop down metering and have all the EXIF data recorded.

Be more concerned about the IQ from this lens. Many purchasers have received bad ones, including me. Auto aperture means nothinng if the lens gives a bad image.

Here are two examples, a image with the Samyang and another with the Canon 15mm FE taken minutes apart from the same spot. Note that the left side of the Samyang is awful while the right side is better. The Canon, which cost me $300 used, if fine.

Are you sure you did not invert your references? Because your second picture (Canon 15mm) is much wider than the first one (Samyang 14mm). Looks weird...

I also have the Samyang 14mm. It is an amazing lens. Razor sharp from edge to edge on my 5DmII, as much as my 70-200L f/4!!

If your sample is not giving good results, just ask for a new sample. Bad copies exist for every models in every brands. ;)

By the way, here is my personnal test of this lens (in french, sorry): http://www.lesnumeriques.com/legrandforum/avis/Appareils-Photo-Camescopes-Numeriques/aspherical-samyang-unique-sujet_11690_1.htm

I already love this little Samyang... :-D

no he is correct, the canon is a fisheye lens, 180degree
samyangs 14mm should be something like

OK, thanks for the information. So he must ask for an exchange. Mine is just the sharper lens I ever used. And all the specialized sites (Photozone, Lenstip) that have tested it found the same thing. ;)
Really an incredible toy! :D
