canon s90 macro

Having great difficulty getting sharply focused photos in macro. Any general advice for camera settings to achieve this? For example does Aperture Priority vs P vs Shutter priority matter when using the macro setting for sharpness? Camera is stabilized on a fixed object or tripod so that can be taken out of the equation. I've not had difficulty getting good macro shots with my other cameras so I assume I'm setting something less-than-optimally.
thanks in advance,
Hank

Re: canon s90 macro

Hi

When I take macro photos with my s90 i do the following:

1.select "macro" on rear thumb wheel
2.menu button - change face aiaf to "centre" (then "frame size to small")

Then when focusing you will have a very small geen box on the rear lcd to focus
on your subject - this will ensure very precise focusing.

Also another tip - is subject likely to move? (ie flower in wind)

1.change from fixed focuing on half shutter press to continuous focusing when half
pressed (this changes the box from green to blue).
2.menu button - change "servo af" from off to "on"

Thanks

Re: canon s90 macro

thank you so much. I will try your advice and get back to you to let you know how it works out for me or if I have any difficulty. I love your macro shots, the shallow depth of field and nice background blur are just what I'm looking for and with flowers as you predicted.

Re: canon s90 macro

how do I change from face aiaf to center? (what is aiaf?)

how do change the focusing when the shutter is half way down to go from the green to the blue box?
thanks for your patience.

Read page 84 (and top of 85) of your user guide for info on AiAf. Read page 87 for info on Servo AF and blue box during half press.

3. hit down arrow on centre pad - this then shows AF FRAME

4. hit right arrow on centre pad - this then shows CENTER (hit right key to select it).
5. hit menu button again to save and exit all done

Re: canon s90 macro

When I hit the down arrow on the center pad, it does not show AF FRAME, it shows AF Frame Size, and the only two choices are small and normal, not CENTER.
Am I in the right spot?

thanks, Carl, I appreciate your patience.
