Some of the best macro pics ive ever seen with m43

Found some great pics - GF1 with Leica 45mm macro is a deadly combination.
And the best part is he won his GF1 in a raffle! crazy times!

That last one is great, much better than your run of the mill bug shot.

Did he ONLY use a GF1 and the 45mm macro lens for these???
If so, its really incredible!!

But I wouldn't have thought it possible to get that much magnification with that lens... Some of these look to be much greater than 1:1 no?

1:1 magnification is at the focal plane. If you stop down (a lot of his shots are at f/18), you get increased DOF both in front of and behind the FP. Course, f/18 doesn't buy you much depth at macro distances, but it's still something.

1:1 is pretty good, I was tracking a bumblebee with the PL45/2.8 today, and I could get close enough that he more than filled the scene. Unfortunately, he really didn't like that, so I backed off after taking a couple of blurred shots. Doh.

Oh, not related to DOF, but I believe he also used a FL-36 or FL360 flash. Awesome stuff, in any event

I think for some of the extreme close ups he uses a Raynox close up lens on the front of the 45mm macro to achieve greater magnification.

Did he hand-hold for these great pics and did he use Raynox 150 or 250 clipped on the end. Give us the full set-up - Thanks

1:1 on 4/3 gets you a better close up than 1:1 on 35mm (about twice as close). That's the maths of a smaller object being the same size as a smaller sensor.

Keep in mind that 1:1 on M4/3

...means that an object only 17mm x 13mm covers the full sensor area, whereas on (35mm) full-frame bodies it would only cover 1/4 of the sensor. An object 36mm x 24mm covers the sensor area at 1:1 on full-frame DSLRs. This gives the 4/3 rig the same effect as 2:1 magnification on full frame.
