25mm f/1.4 (C-mount) samples

I just got this no-name CCTV lens recently and was blown away by the way it portrays the world. It features just about every technical imperfection photography has tried to overcome in the past 100 years, but it just doesn't matter when I look at the shots.

Some features:

  • costs $40US

  • it's razor-sharp in the center

  • features continuous iris adjustment so you can use it as a pinhole or adjust aperture while shooting video

  • it's amazingly small and lightweight (see last photo)

Here are some unmanipulated samples from the first test shoot. Can't wait to shoot some more, it's a real pleasure!

This was shot in cross process filter mode:

Great shots,
and ...holy crud that thing is small.
Where did you get it?

This is the type of look and photography that would lead me to buy into the M 4/3 system.

Re: 25mm f/1.4 (C-mount) samples

I have the same lens. I had given up on c-mount a few months ago but I am rediscovering its merits over the last few days.

I am not crazy about the imperfections of the c-mount lenses. However, I do appreciate what you were able to achieve with 25mm.

I am working on doing a complete lens review of every single lens I have. I have about 4 c-mount lenses so hopefully that will give everyone an idea of what they are capable of.

Looking forward to your reviews - the c-mount looks really interesting.

Yes, you need a C-mount adaptor. There are dozens around ebay, this is the one I got:

Hehe, I know what you mean. I knew I had to have it the second I saw some sample shots.
I got the lens here:

I love those.
Thanks also for the last cam/lens shot. Always like to see those.

Amazing how the format has brought so much fun back into shooting ...especially the Pens - with an ability to use SO MANY different lenses.

I wouldn't call it razor sharp at the center, but it does have an incredible quirky look. Congrats on the very interesting set.

Re: 25mm f/1.4 (C-mount) samples

I reallt like the look of these images; they have a very specific character to them, not usable on just any subject, but they are very cool. They remind me a lot of the lensbaby I use on my GF1, but the beautiful colours you get out of the EP-2 just don't come thourhg the GF1.

I am still hoping to find a cross-process PS plug in I am happy with; all the ones I have tried don't seem to give consistent results in different photos, lighting, etc.

I will be looking to add a C mount into my arsenal for shure.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: 25mm f/1.4 (C-mount) samples

does anyone agree there are many similarities between these and the noktor 0.95 sample shots, such as center sharpness and 'funny' bokeh?

is 0.95 to 1.4 really worth 600 $ more?

if somebody can explain more about the technical differences between the 2 lenses that would be fantastic.

Re: Hi Matijaa...

a really nice set of pictures. The 25mm f1.4 cctv is really a fun lens.

Please also consider getting the 35mm f1.7 cctv lens (for 2/3" CCD). It is a better lens than the 25mm f1.4 cctv lens according to local users, a little bit more expensive than the 25mm f1.4. It can take better portraits than the 25mm for its 70mm EFL. I had made some 8 X 10 print direct from OOC files.

More 35mm f1.7 cctv lens pictures.

Those are nice! I've been thinking about picking up that lens based on some discussions over on GetDPI's forum, and you samples just convinced me.

Does the pen support them better than the panasonics or what?

Even if the Noktor haven't been that much of a performer I assume they atleast tried to make a serious lens. This one doesn't even come close but that seem to be what the positive people likes about it so then it doesn't matter.

I doubt the noktor is this blurry, vignetted and cateyebokeh at the sides.
