Pentax K7 silent firmware update: 1.03.00.22

Hi!

I have noticed there is a new silent firmware update on the Pentax Japan site:

http://www.pentax.jp/english/support/digital/k-7_s.html

The new version is 1.03.00.22. The old one was 1.03.00.19.
MD5 of the new firmware: 7c2de238174220f61fe22021d840c2d7
MD5 of the old firmware: 432699d63256227745a692b3646f5a5a

I have downloaded and installed it without any problems. So far I have no idea what they have corrected...

Nope, I downloaded it yesterday after seeing the silent Kx update, and it was still v1.03.00.19 (japanese site)...

So they put it up this morning...

Yes, it is new FW. Old firmware was v1.03.00.19, this one is v1.03.00.22. Date means nothing.

Re: The FW modified dated: 15 February 2010.

2 fw updates at about the same time. conicidence? or routines common to both kx and k7 being updated?

i haven't compared the k7 fw's, but the kx fw's are about 2mb different or about 20%. that's significant IMHO.

So what is the verdict?

Nobody knows what has been changed? Anybody contact Pentax yet?

I'm waiting until I know why

I think I will pass on this one. I'm not having any problems and like to know why before I do. Maybe it's the addition of third party apps. through pTunes

Re: So what is the verdict?

Didn't the last updates add the FA limiteds to the lens correction routine? Maybe more of the FA series has been added?

Thank you

Doubtful, IMO. Surely there would be a positive announcement in that case for the benefit of the owners/users of the lens(es) which have been added into the routine.

Re: So what is the verdict?

Ok, so, there are only two options left:

  • either it's some obscure, unimportant fix (some icons changed, a text was fixed, this kind of thing)

  • or a shameful bug was fixed (thinking "Green Line" here). Could be the SR, the wireless flash, anything...

In both cases, don't count on Pentax for telling it...

Or maybe an update of lenses yet to be announced.

Re: So what is the verdict?

Hummmm, with the advent of on-board lens correction, you're probably right...

We can wonder what will be the support from Pentax about this, by the way... Will they update firmwares say 2-3 years from now for new lenses support?

Lens correction data

AFAIK the lens correction data are in the lens ROM, as far as DA lenses are concerned. Only for the legacy FA lenses it has to be stored in the camera firmware (and this is obviously only done for the FA Limited lenses, which are the only ones still in production).

Re: Pentax K7 silent firmware update: 1.03.00.22

Hi, I just update to new firmware. I test SD card performance with movie 720p. I have AData SD 16GB Class 6 (a slow card). With 1.02 i can record until 0:50 min. With 1.03 i record until 1:56 min. Now i record 5:55 min and i stopped. That mean 2GB file. I think this firmware make a better SD work.

1.03.00.22 fixes recording times...

On January 19, 2010 I checked video recording using the Transcend 8gb and 16gb Class 6 on the K-x and the K-7. Each test was run two times.

K-x....both 8gb and 16gb records maximum video of 11min 58sec.

K-7....the 8gb records the maximum video of 9min 37sec. The 16gb stops after 58sec. I don't know what my firmware was at the time.

I updated to the "new" firmware 1.03.00.22 yesterday, April 14, 2010.

K-7...the Transcend 16gb will now record the full 9min 37sec.

Cheers.
Ron
