They said they intended to do this since the introduction of m43.

The folks at dvxuser are literally frothing at the mouth: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=206747 . If you're even remotely serious about video, this should be a great camera.

Oh yes... The MOS is 12MP.

Dan.

p.s., that link has REAL camera shots showing the GH1's native lens mounted on the camera.

omg, i just realised that you can basically mount any lens on that baby! (with minimal fuss)

im guessing its going to be in the 8-10k range and use P2 cards. RED Scarlet (esp. the 2/3 version) is going to be left in the dust.

That's pretty cool, but what does it do that the GH1 doesn't? Is it just the built-in variable ND?

Hmmm ... ¿lack of power zoom = new lenses?

The high-res image at http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prModelDetail?storeId=11301&catalogId=13251&itemId=407080 shows the lens to be the 14-140. But as damn-near every pro video camera has a power zoom and the 14-140 lens doesn't, I think it is a fair bet to say that the AG-AF100 will have a different lens to the one shown in the mockup. (No great surprise that Panasonic doesn't want to show an unannounced lens on the mockup.)

This leads to the next interesting question ... when will we see power zoom on standard µFT cameras -- next generation, two generations, ... ?

No, they say twin SDXC cards.

I doubt I could afford the pro version! Prosumer version please! :-)

Something like this would do nicely (early 2011??):-

And for the mass market (mid-2011?):-

Power zooms are generally an amateur feature. The camera is aimed at students studying film and film makers and they just don't use power zoom much at all. They use prime lenses.

This is quite clearly a computer generated mock up at the moment which is good because they need to do a lot with the design to make it more useable. It will be interesting where they pitch the build quality though. Hopefully it's the pro end of Panasonic and not the amateur end build quality of their video cameras. Will also be interesting to see what memory cards it uses. Hopefully not P2 cards because they cost a fortune. Would not be surprised if second hand Zuiko film lenses don't go up in value.

Is that Olympus 12-60mm mounted on the camera?

m4/3 IS the new c-mount.

I think the best way to go is to make the mount an open standard, and the electronic contacts the proprietary item.

That way, we get wider variaty of manufacturer making manual lens in this mount, while Pany and Oly can keep their profit margin for R&D with auto lenses.

Power zooms are generally an amateur feature. The camera is aimed at students studying film and film makers and they just don't use power zoom much at all. They use prime lenses.

The division is probably more film making vs. other... eg. 100k studio cameras have power zoom lenses. But, film making you have specific shots you want and you have time to set things up... you also use transitions when you want a different perspective (rather than zooming).

This is quite clearly a computer generated mock up at the moment which is good because they need to do a lot with the design to make it more useable. It will be interesting where they pitch the build quality though. Hopefully it's the pro end of Panasonic and not the amateur end build quality of their video cameras. The rumor is that it will be around $6K USD.

My first reaction as well... AVC here as well, so why the $5k premium over the GH1 ?

That lens shown on the new m4/3 camcorder definitely is an all new design 14-140 and differs considerably from the existing 14-140 lens being much longer, much larger front element, and smaller diameter main barrel. Maybe a 14-140/f2.8 ??.

Another possibility is they are showing a 2x extendar to the front of the existing lens to cover up to 600mm focal length? The thinner barrel suggests possibly a manual focus lens not AF but then clearly it is marked OIS?

Any suggestions from anyone knowing more about the design of these lenses for video?
