CD cover photoshoot

I did a CD cover shoot of an R&B artist. I used an SB800 and a reflector for these shots. I brought 3 more strobes just in case and didn't really need it for the shots that I wanted. I used the sun for rim lighting, flash as key and reflector for fill in most of my shots that day. Here are a few.

Re: CD cover photoshoot

I like them a lot overall... the 1st looks a little too dragonized or lucasized for today's taste in album covers... but still a good shot. The 2nd and 4th are really good for me... 2nd on the cover and 4th inside sleeve is a winner! The first shot I really like but it just looks a somehow overprocessed to me... but I could be seeing things. Either way nice work.

I am concerned about the jacket. too metallic? weird shadow behind his neck 2 & 3. 4 I like.

Good to see you're getting a few train track/brick wall shots

I'd be interested to know what PP you have done on 1 & 3. They have a quality I cant put my finger on. They look a little bit 'paintingy' if you get what i mean.

Re: CD cover photoshoot

Unlike one poster, I really like the first shot! Almost a monochrome, graphic and interesting. Nice rim light. Looks a bit "hot" on my monitor, but that is a two-second tweak. Good one!

Re: CD cover photoshoot

Here is the updated version of image number 1 since some of you thought the jacket didn't look right. So I did some tweaking.

As far as PP. I use LR for the usual adjustments, then I use PS and use levels to boost up the contrast and I used topaz adjust plugin in number 1 for a little more pop.

Nice work. Sometimes breaking the "rules" is a good thing and works out.

Re: CD cover photoshoot

They're good examples but it's a bit of an ongoing laugh around here that a band photo has a high chance of including either a brick wall, or a train track. Maybe even both, if the photog is skilled enough.

Google "band photo brick wall". its pretty funny
