Nikon D4 seen on tv

Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that I saw the new Nikon D4 on dutch tv this weekend.

There was a documentary about the Australian photographer of architecture John Gollings who was working in the field with a Nikon D4. I only saw it for a short moment but there was clearly a 4 on it instead of a 3. The only significant thing I saw was the bigger top of the camera. I mean the prism on top of the camera. Maybe because of the new autofocus system as the rumours suggest. Time will tell.

best regards

Re: Nikon D4 seen on tv...Try an F4

Sorry, but's I believe that showed him with an F4.

Further, if it was a "Test" camera, they wouldn't have put a visible model # on it.

The AF is on the bottom of most SLRs though..

So why would that be the reason for a bigger top housing?

Right now only one SLR with AF at the top springs to mind, the Canon EOS RT And 1 series RS(?) with pellicle mirror (a mirror letting about 3/2rds of light through to the film, and one 3rd up to the view finder and metering and in this case also AF), which does not move.

Re: Nikon D4 seen on tv

two answers.

yes it is the movie 'eye for architecture' from 360degrees

and no it is certainly not a F4. It's unallowed to upload a part of the movie to youtube but when else i would do that. But there's clearly D4 on it.

I assume that it is a field test for the D4 and someone somewhere must have forgotten to put a small tape on the D4 symbol. Or maybe it was supposed to be like this and it was ment to be. Who knows.

Re: Nikon D4 seen on tv

There's one thing I'll have to correct in this thread.

I mentioned that the top was bigger than that of the d3 but after carefully comparing pictures of a d3 with the movie I cannot be sure on this.

It's to difficult to see because there is a shift lens with a big hood on the camera that makes it hard to tell the difference.
So I'll guess I was to fast with this conclusion.

Re: Stop dreaming guys,

Then check again at 29:21 into the movie, when the photographer switches to a D4 body and there's a close up clearly showing the name of the camera.

In the other clips he uses a D3x, so there's no misstaking that it's a different body or at least a different naming, if he was joking with us.

Re: Stop dreaming guys,

Hello

First of all this is not a joke from me.
But of course someone else could be fooling us.
I put the clip on youtube now so you can convince yourself,
With permission from J.Gollings who said that the camera was a D3x...

And about new cameras me personally I wouldn't know any reason to want another when I had a D3.

The prism housing and the rest of the body look exactly like a D3(s/x).
So not sure why you saw it as being bigger, OP.

No so strange to have some top photographers field test your new camera, very strange to have it appear in a docu like that.

Funny - but not a D4

Besides that, it's 14 days early for April 1.
