1D4 and BIF tracking

It was not so ideal lighting condition(slightly back.side lit) in the afternoon high Sun.

The following 11 images were from a burst (I did not delete any images) and Bald Eagle diving into the fish is not an easy target.
Shot with 1D4+ Ef500/4.5L(yes, made in 1992) handheld.
I used manual mode at ISO 800, speed about 1/2000 and F/7.1-8.
-L&R AF expansion
-back AF button to track the bird
-release/drive speed priority
-tracking sensitivity-med slow

Exposure goes a bit too bright on 4/5/6, but the first ones and 7 onward are excellent, well done for grabbing that sequence, great focussing !

Great shots.

BTW why did not you put them in your previous thread?

the exposure looks fine on each. The background is very bright for the bright shots, which you see in the picture, but no part of the picture looks over exposed.
The sun is probably on the 'wrong' side of the photographer on those.

Very nice series that demonstrate good tracking skill and an AF that had no problem staying with the subject. A little curves adjustment on the first few frames and they'd look beautiful.

These are great shots. I have the 500 IS and have not got shots anywhere near this good but thats down to me. I notice you are on release priority as well which i must try.

What kind of distance were you at and what crop was done on these? Once again great shots.

Re: Excellent BIF tracking

In this situation, what is the advantage of release/drive speed priority?

I was wondering this myself ...

I've always used A/F proirity / Tracking priority
Fabulous images by the way !

This is the advantage of 1D series, once focused, you got a burst of 100% keepers.

Thanks for sharing. Composition is wonderful by the way, did you crop it?

That way I can fire at will even without attaining the perfect focus lock, at times I found the shutter is frozen if I set it AF priority.
