Dimage 7i EVF black

After the defective CCD had been replaced the EVF of my Dimage 7i worked properly only in certain tilt positions. At last it stopped working entirely (EVF display black). Since warranty was through I bought a otherwise defective Dimage 7i via online auction, took the EVF from that one and installed it to my Dimage. It won't work either!

Is there anybody who experienced similar problems and can provide a solution or hints?

Re: Dimage 7i EVF black

It might be simply the connecting ruban between the electronics and the EVF.
Especially when in the beginning it was dependent on the position of the finder.

I don't know it you can find replacements, but after all those rubans are so common now, that with some imagination one could find a replacement?

Maybe the ruban in your camera for parts is still working!

Hi Reg,

thanks for your hint! I replaced the flat flex cable ("ruban", but I understood anyway) - and the EVF is working again!

However, after a few minutes operation time the EVF image turned rather milky. Like seen through a white veil. Any idea even about that?

Could this be condensation - IE moisture got inside somehow?

At the moment in the UK condensation in lanses and cameras is qiuite a problem with the temperature variation getting in and out of a car.

It could even have happened as the camera warmed itself up after a long period of not being used.... we know that the Dimage 7 range runs a bit warm. I'm thinking internal moisture could have been evaporated onto different surfaces, possibly?

(Suggestion: Pop it in the airing cupboard next to the hot water tank, for a day?)

Yours is a good point; I don't think temperatures have been much different in Germany, Adrian!

Hi Adrian, hi Barrie,

thank you for the clue. I'll check condensation on weekend and report back!

Hi Adrian, hi Barrie,

it seems, condensation had been the issue, indeed! Have been using the camera yesterday - with the EVF working fine!

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

You buy a camera off eBay and use it for parts .

Ones that are sold as "untested" tend to be cheep .

Just hope the parts you want are still in good order .
