Simple photo editing program for a 10 year old

Can anyone recommend a good and simple tool for photo editing 10 year old could handle? Just need some basic stuff like crop, levels/curves, color adjustment, red eyes... Ideally, the tool should have a build in browser as well.

I know it sounds like Lightroom, but I think it is too complex. I've downloaded ACDsee but I didn't like it at all (neither pro nor 2008 Editor version). Good they provide a trial... Any other suggestions?

I can teach him but it needs to be a simple tool at the beginning. I wish iPhoto was available for PC

Paint.net is a simple editor but does not include a browser. Big advantage is that it is free.

Windows Live Photo Gallery

The free Windows Live Photo Gallery is perfect for this use. It's fast, simple, and works very well. I use it a lot for simple editing and organization when Capture NX2 is overkill.

Picasa from Google is free of cost, easy to use and has nice features when it comes to displaying a collection of photos.
Just try it.

Agree.... My 5 year old uses photoshop all the time.. albeit with me right there. For sure a 10 year old should be able to grasp the controls in a bit of time... what a great advantage to learn such a program at that age.

Good luck!

You really think that Lightroom is simple? Maybe GUI is comprehensive but easy for a 10yo?

I agree. Picasa is a great free tool for a 10 y.o. It even has some built in special effects, too.

idigi-- Right on. It's also a favorite for us old folks. The kids seem to like the web albums, etc but the basic Picasa is about as good as a freebe gets.

Re: Simple photo editing program for a 10 year old

I think you may be underestimating your 10 year old. I have a 10 year old grandson and he learns and retains information way better than I can. Take a look at some of the computer games that are popular with kids these days.

Almost all editing programs have simple and automated adjustments available. Start with those and then when he finds some pictures that need further improvement you can show him selections and layers.

Adobe Photoshop Elements it is!

Thanks a lot for everyone who responded! Thanks the Universe - trial versions of almost every application were available so we've spend time trying them out.

As most of you predicted - my kid was much faster than me figuring out how to use all these tools. Even Lightroom was not an issue, he just didn't like it because "it has more than I need".

So, thanks a lot once again. We've settled on the PSE.
