A Photo Of The New Nikon???

Bob Krist's latest blog entry talks about a shoot he's doing for a client, which he can't name, using a camera, which he can't name. He includes a shot of himself using the camera however. Maybe the new Nikon, or maybe something else. Looks like a Nikon to me. Read his post and decide for yourself =:-)

Personally, I like the lens hood reversed on lens shooting through glass.

Maybe the hood is partly used to hide a new lens as well?

Exactly. Only a photographer using his camera as a video camera would do such a thing.

But the hood usually makes using the zoom a pain, no? Anyway, not a clue here ...

It's easy to argue about equipment and technique, but hard to argue with a good photograph -- and more difficult to capture one .

Re: A Photo Of The New Nikon???

Hmmm why o why ;-D

some push the lenshood to rest on the glass of plane/helicopter (using reverse hood) to avoid shaking or even for focussing. Might be that is the reason

Just some thoughts of course.

It depends on the lens. While the current consumer-level zooms have the zoom ring at the front of the lens and focus ring near the body, the rings are reversed on pro-level zooms and older consumer-level zooms.

Well, the image all blown up like that in size says more about the viewfinder housing, it is big, or at least looks like that = FF cam?

Re: A Photo Of The New Nikon???

First i thought a zoom, but taking another view, i think its a prime too, because it does not look like there are two rings on the thing. Then a prime, the size is the same as 105 2.8 VR but the hood is wideangle, so maybe 28/24 1.4 is possible. But it is way bigger than the last version, but maybe the AFS is the reason. I cross my fingers.

Looks like the sigma 24-70 HSM, hood and lens shape. Except it's not it (the sigma reversed hood position itself at 90° compared to the position on the picture). Nevertheless, proportions seems to be quite similar

Re: D700s?

Looks like it could be more a D700s considering it is being shot at twilight from a helicopter. The wait for a D700X will continue me thinks.

Actually it is not a lens hood but rather a collar containing anti-freeze. It's been rather cold down here in Florida,

Re: D700s?

The lens looks similiar to a 24-120 barrel and hood. Maybe a constant f4.0 version of that as well? That would be a great walkround lens for D700/D3.

Re: Insanity

Well, I did say make up your own mind =:-)

Krist is a well known Nikon shooter. So when he indicates he's shooting with proprietary gear he can't talk about, for a client he can't talk about, it's not unreasonable to assume he "might" be shooting with new unreleased Nikon gear. But yes, perhaps it's insanity as well =:-) Anyway, it's all just fun and games. We'll find out soon enough what Nikon is going to release in February.
