DFA 100mm Macro WR 800$ at Camera Canada..bought it!

http://www.cameracanada.com/eNet-cart/product.asp?pid=21910&cat=C002

Hi,
saw it on Camera Canada...at 800$ CDN (old version is 580$ BTW).

Since i'm working my way to a sealed kit(was thinking of buying some DA*),i already have the DA50-135,DA*200 will be added eventually, when i saw that new 100mm Macro i thought it would fit very well in my kit!

If Pentax can do a DA* 135 or 200mm Macro and a DA*11-16

Now will be waiting to know when they will ship!

I don't think it will be much less in the USA. I think I might as well go with the older versions, as I can get a used F 100 with the focus limiter for 450. If the new one was close to ~$600 I would have, but this is too steep.

Hi,

for me since i only use MF for macro (and all my shooting in general) i don't mind don't having a focus limiter,i prefer metal construction and WR!

Depends on personnal use and preferences.

Are the optics identical to the current (or perhaps recently discontinued) DFA 100?

I really want to get this new macro, as I am in the market for one. I can totally understand many doing so. I was waiting to see the price and find it a tad too expensive. I would buy it just for the looks :p, I would love the quick-shift for macro, and that lens is sexy. But, I am having a tough time paying that much more when I will not even use it much.

I would love to see some images taken with it.

According the the Pentax press release, it uses the same optics, but does have additional coatings (SP coating to protect the front element and make it easier to clean) and a diaphragm with rounded blades.

What that means is the bokeh will be better at the larger apertures. The old lens starts forming octagons on bright spots in the background when you leave f/2.8. This is useful for things like think out of focus Christmas lights, the new lens will keep them circular shaped longer. I don't think the new lens will be any sharper or anything, but the old was already an excellent lens.

It sounds really good, and I think the quick shift focus will be perfect for macro.

Wow! You did pull the trigger fast on this one. Speaking of pulling the trigger (too) fast. I bought a Tamron 90 macro for 399$ two months ago. I chose the Tamron because it offers a good price/quality ratio. What prevented me from buying a Pentax DFA 100 was it's plastic construction. I know, the Tamron's build quality is not much better, but since it was cheaper and offered comparable image quality, I finally decided to buy my first non-Pentax lens. Although I am please with the results I obtained so far with this lens, I don't know how long I will resist to this beautiful piece of glass and aluminum. And let's be honnest, the feel of a lens is a very important factor when you tasted Pentax's Limited primes built quality. I can't wait to have your opinion on this lens and see pictures taken with it.

I have been lusting after the Sigma 105 as my Macro to be one day, but I think that has been dethroned. I hvae often hesitated to get too up close and personal to wet flowers for risk of damaging my 17-70 with water. With this lens, I would not worry about it. that is worth a lot. Really curious to see how it turns out to work in the field!

Re: DFA 100mm Macro WR 800$ at Camera Canada..bought it!

I ordered mine as well yesterday as I would really like to take a real macro lens on the trips next year, but given the destinations, WR is more than welcome.

I do just hope it will be shipped on time. I do not have a delivery date so far.

This explains the drop of the lens roadmap

They annouce the lens just a few weeks before it is available.

No more roadmap with expected lenses that may be shipped one or two years later...
Cheers

I do guess you will be first.

Pentaximaging mentions delivery in January, while Pentax Germany says Spring... And it is Pentax Germany which delivers to Switzerland now.
