Nikon forums

I'm new to Nikon, therefore I joined some forums.

One place I like is here altough people are extra sensitive and not really helpful.

One of them is Nikoncafe. Is it me or is that place a kindergarten for adults?

Haha...

This place isn't all bad... most people are very helpful. So what setup did you get?

My favorite forum for help and info is Nikonians.org but you do have to have a paid membership to participate in most of the forums after a trial period.

Re: Nikon forums

Some people can get pretty creative around here. Don't let it discourage you from speaking your mind. Best policy I've advise and follow is to ignore a post you don't agree with. After a week or two, you can see who really gets butt hurt and who can actually handle a few punches. I try to smooth things out after I get pretty heated. So watch out

But welcome! What gear did you get your hands on?

Many of the members there are good people, but some of the moderators are a little less "adult" in their behavior.

Re: Nikon forums

Do you think Nikonians has better forums, due to the paid membership? Interesting.

I find the "free" forums mixed, to say the least. There have been some absolutely dire threads here in the last few days. On the other hand, it's still a good source of information for views on lenses etc. Type in the name of any lens into the search box and you'll usually find a useful consensus.

You know the term "Happy Imbecile"? I think it fits perfectly with that place.

Re: Nikon forums

It's about heavily moderated vs barely moderated. Dpreview can get a bit unruly at times, but I'll take that over the homogenization of heavy moderation. On what planet is "not being nice" the worst offense one can imagine? Totally unnatural...

I've been on Dpreview since June 2006. Unfortunately, some posting history has been lost along the way...

Re: Nikon forums

I think you're being much too hard on Nikon Cafe. Many previous heavy posters from here are there. You'll always get helpful information and criticism if you ask. There's a refreshing lack of nastiness. I use both.

NikonCafe is the retirement home for people that can't take the heat here....some of them end up coming back to DPR after they figure out they are not ready for retirement

Public forums are like public swimming pools...

There are some nice people and then there are some idiots. While swimming I always ignore the idiots. The idiots think they own the pool. Ignoring such posters or swimmers is the best you can do.

Once you ignore them, there are a lot here who can teach you a fine thing or two about this fine hobby.

Re: Nikon forums

DPR is huge, so it is unrealistic to expect to have only perfect people all over the place. As everywhere in life, take the good bits and ignore the nasty ones. Positive thinking good for a healthy mind.

Not to mention, there are some very good photographers at DPR, just have a look at the photos loading at the top, you will never or rarely see that level at Nikonians or Nikon Cafe.

Yes because they like that cult mentality that does not grow well at DPR.

I would have to disagree with that ,fanboyism is rampant in most forum here with Canon, Nikon and Olympus the worst offenders.

Yes, but that is way different to a cult metality.
