Re: get rid of camera shake icon?

The icon means that your shutter speed is slow (slower than 1/60? sec) and does not mean that your camera is moving around. The Icon will appear while the camera is on a tripod too. If you are in P mode you can try" program shift" to a faster shutter speed, or go to Tv and input a faster shutter speed, or use a higher ISO or shoot manually or turn on the flash or...one of many strategies to increase shutter speed. Is the effect you are talking about the motion blur from too slow a shutter speed?

Re: get rid of camera shake icon?

Mike...I am very interested in this as well. How do you do "program shift" to a faster shutter speed in P mode?

Thanks

either speed up the exposure (maybe adjusting it in AV to let more light in for a faster exposure). or bracing yourself. shoot close to the body, lock your arms, hold your breath, and squeeze the button, not push it. if your near a tree use that. use a rail, or even someone's head (you should know them first).

Re: get rid of camera shake icon?

in P mode you can't. you need to turn the dial to AV (for fstops), TV for exposure time, and M to adjust for both.

Half-press your shutter button and press .
Let up on your shutter button.
Use your left and right rocker switches to change your shutter/aperture ratio.
Half-press your shutter button again to achieve focus.
Press your shutter to take picture.

This technique keeps your exposure the same by balancing your shutter speed with aperture. You must repeat the process for each shot.

Another advantage of this method is that it gives you a quick readout of the camera's setting preferences which you can use in Manual mode.

Hi

When I started this was the place I used alot. There is lots of good information for beginners:

Here is article about the exposure and shutter speeds:

This is also a good place to go for good tips about good pictures:

Re: get rid of camera shake icon?

Hi Don,

What is rocker button? You mean the 4 directional omni button? I tried your steps in P mode but nothing happened. The locked aperture and shutter setting disappeared when I tried.

Yes... I forgot the terminology. Apparently it's "omni selector."

I tried your steps in P mode but
nothing happened. The locked aperture and shutter
setting disappeared when I tried.

Hmm, don't know what to say. I just tried it again and it works perfectly.

Perhaps you can try it again. I followed exactly the steps I listed below.

Half-press your shutter button and press .
Let up on your shutter button.
Use your left and right rocker switches to change your
shutter/aperture ratio.
Half-press your shutter button again to achieve focus.
Press your shutter to take picture.

This technique keeps your exposure the same by balancing your
shutter speed with aperture. You must repeat the process for
each shot.

Failing that, check pages 75-76 in the manual in case my explantion is off (I'm off to bed now).

Sorry it took me so long to reply. These messages tend to disappear fairly quickly. I only found it by doing a search on my name which I do every once in a while to see if I've missed any threads I've commented on.

Let me know if you can't get this to work. It's really quite a useful feature.

Re: get rid of camera shake icon?

Hi Don,

Thanks for replying, though it took a long time. No problem.

I know why it didn't work for me now. It's because I left the flash on. It worked when I switched it off. I have 2 questions.
1) What is the effect of different shutter speed and aperture combination?

2) Is I tried them out, some of the combination are displayed red in color on the LCD screen. What does that mean?

Thanks again.

Hey Mike, there's an idea!

"Excuse me Ms. Hot Looking Babe. I'm a "professional photographer" and I really need to use some part of your body to steady my camera for this critical picture. Strictly professional you understand. If I had some other option I wouldn't be bothering you".

OK .. not politically correct. But we all know men are basically dogs.

either speed up the exposure (maybe adjusting it in AV to let more

By changing the aperture ratio, this does help a bit but definitely still not a clear photo. Is there a way to take photos when there is action in the shot? I feel like I want to be able to use this camera for multipurpose (both for family photo shoots as well as recording everyday life with the kiddos) and I'm unable to do either- I've had this camera since it came out and only used a couple of times as it's always blurry! Any help greatly appreciated as I'm debating buying a different camera before starting to take on family sessions.

Thx!

I am fairly sure that the op resolved their issue at some time in the last 2 decades.

If your camera has aperture priority, shutter priority or M then you could try to keep the shutter speed above 1/60 sec.
