200 f2 goes soft (as in puppy soft)!

I used my D700 with the 200 f2 to capture some photographs of my brother's Yellow Labrador puppy.

Again you tempt me!

200 f/2 and Mr. Nagel, a winning combo.
I notice you were at f/6.3, was this to get DOF or to sharpen the image?

Can´t afford reading your posts

Beautiful!

After reading about the AF-system settings and your excellent pic´s on the dacksie previously, I ordered a D700 and waiting to get it any day.
Now, thanks to you, I also want a 200 f2 to go with the D700.

this is not fare

Kind regards / George

Re: Again you tempt me!

Thank you...

I went with f/6.3 of narrower on most of these for the reasons you state...ultimate sharpness and greater depth of field. I wanted her nose to be mostly in focus as well as her eyes.

Thanks George...

You are going to love the D700. I'm still amazed by the camera each time I shoot with it.

Re: Again you tempt me!

Thanks Glenn. It is refreshing to have a person who owns the lens admit that it gets better towards f/6.3 rather than say it is best wide open.

cute puppy, from the complete pro

Glenn,

another sequence of outstanding images from yourself, those puppy shots could easily be used as a calendar shoot, the lighting in your work never fails to amaze me, yes ok you use top quality nikon glass, but you seem to have mastered the way in which to gain the best from them, the limited depth of field from the 200 f2 must take some handling and you seem to have cracked it to say the least, so again i am humbled by your work, you are No1 in my book, and continue to inspire in the quest for excellence which is what we all aspire too, well done and thank you for sharing your love of photography.
