Over in the other forum, we have this ongoing game - an A 50 1.7 is making it's way around the world in the mails - when it's your turn, a package appears on your doorstep, you take some snaps of your location, upload to a filckr group, and send the lens on it's way to the next person.

A Pentax lens is going to see the world - and show it to us, through the eyes of Pentaxians from every continent.

It just arrived from Australia a couple days ago, and when I have some free time I get out around the neighborhood with it... Here are some snaps from the last couple days. I'll probably be sending it away on Monday.

We just got a new fence a few weeks ago, and one of our cats likes to walk the perimeter like a DMZ guard:

Here's a fun place for kid's & dogs to romp during summer concerts (Lake Harriet Bandshell)

Of course, need to keep everything watered! (f/1.7)

Nice initiative!
I would be interested to see the flickr group - could you replay
with the name of the group?

Nice shots from your area with that nifty fifty!
Thanks for let me know about this.

Great shots, pity the country or region is not mentioned on each photo. But I do like the different approach and shots taken. Great lens too!

I agree, but each of us that gets the lens gets the 'owner' login/password for that flickr account, so maybe we can put in some descriptive captions.

Here are a few more shots I took with "Nifty" today.

Fish going "piranha" on a saltine:

f/2.5

Kids find Jazz riveting at morning Pavilion concert:

I'm attempting to capture a small part of the essence of my community and location, but I just don't have enough time to do it perfectly. I went to the zoo today, where they have an entire section set up as a working farm - It's a ways down a trail, and what I think they did was buy the original farmstead that was located there and gentrified it a bit, cleaned it up...

I wanted to show a bit of my state's agricultural heritage, but I felt like taking shots at this "farm" was like taking shots of "Manhattan" in Las Vegas's "New York New York" section.

But the animals are real, they plant crops, the buildings are restored, but real, I think...

f/3.2

I think Land 'o Lakes and Hormel were 'sponsors' of this farm restoration:

f/1.8

This kid was following me around, ruining every shot....

In Como for a spell

Como conservatory in St. Paul is a great place to shoot on cold Winter days, or anytime. The grounds are booked for weddings every weekend in the Summer. Thought I'd bring the Nifty Fifty for a visit before it hits the long road tomorrow...

This carousel was restored from an early 20th century incarnation - I like how the embedded folk art makes no apologies for it's strangeness. f/1.7 1/60s

The Monstrosity Of America
-- hide signature --

The MOA (Mall Of America) remains a destination for long layovers (the airport is a couple football fields away) and for bored out-staters and Iowans. And camera carrying folk.

It contains Legoland, which is actually pretty cool:

Making cohesive Lego objects is still a hit & miss proposition for a 20mth-old:

These young ladies were speaking French - I think they were attending some sort of family reunion, from what I could make out:

I love the concept of having this lens passed on to many different photographers in many different places. I've set the stream on my contacts to keep an eye on it.

You've done some incredible work with this lens. I'd be intimidated as heck to have to shoot after you.

Laree,

Thanks, but I'm really just a snapshooter, I think there are actual photographers in queue for this lens. Regardless, just one simple snap of a location is what inspires me, that this one lens took that shot. Doesn't need to be any great art, for sure.

I usually love the 50-55mm FL, but for this application it was a bit tough - a wider angle would have made "location!" much easier to establish. I just tried to get some simple 'activities within the larger frame' documented with a flavor of unique location.

I cold have done some downtown landscapes, where 50mm would have been fine, but I didn't get around to it

What a great idea, and I love that you can see exactly where the shot was taken via the Google Maps link.

Thanks for posting this, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Where is The Travelling Nifty Fifty!

I was wondering does anyone know or have any interest in where the Travelling Nifty Fifty has got to? I liked this idea and the Flickr site is not very current since I visited last.
