Nikon D700X, not in the pipeline

Well, one of my Tokyo pals just informed me the following. New D700X, NO, not even near.

According to his knowledge, and he has plenty of inside info from Nikon, theyre not even thinking in these terms.

There are whispers of a dslr in between the D3 and D3X with 20MPs, retailing for in between 5000 bucks.

Oh well, I had hoped for an upscaled D700 as a backup to D3X but I guess it will never see the light of day.

This pal of mine BTW, has been right about everything regarding Nikon since the D2X.

Well, wine or no wine and your wining apart. What I was told seams to be the bottom line, period, over and out.

Hi Michel,

Remember: try Ribera del Duero one day (it is like Rioja a very big wine producer zone), there are many good brands there but I can recommend Arzuaga, Pesquera, and if you have the bucks Vega Sicilia. I am not an expert and like wine in big quantities when having a good dinner. I write this because I read you like spanish red wine and are, like most of the world, drinking Rioja. Viva el vino y la madre que lo pario!

I would be surprised if Nikon spent millions developing a new sensor while there are millions to be made with a sensor already in production. All we can do is wait and see lol

Well my cousin who works for Nikon NY as a night porter says he saw a prototype of the D700X while he was mopping up...and he is very reliable.

Re: Nikon D700X, not in the pipeline

Common sense is enough to disprove what your "well-informed" friend guess will happen!!!

Therefore, why Nikon needs to update the D700 that is already an outstanding camera? Answer: the Canon 5D Mark II!!! That is as simple as that and that is plain common sense.

For your information, the Nikon D300, D3, D700 and even the D3X, all were a direct responses to specific Canon models.

Therefore, yes, there will be an update to the D700 that will add at least video to the D700 and other improvements and it will compete directly with the Canon 5D Mark II on features.

Same idea for the D300, there will also be an update to the D300 with video added to it with other improvements.

Sorry to break it to you, but no matter the past history concerning your friend's guesses, there is no certainty for his future guesses!!!!

The update to the D300 will come surely during 2009. The update to the D700 will come either during 2009 or, at the worst, at the beginning of 2010 but more likely in 2009 too.

Aalto is my favorite Ribera del Duero winery. Highly recommend.

If it is the bottle line or bottom line we should see.
Nice to log this post and look back on it in some time

Hi Pepe,

Thank you, I can't remember so I wrote down the names and I like to try!
I'm not an expert either, I just like wine and good sake.

Sounds good to me MP wise. Only question is where is Nikon sourcing the sensor from?

Re: Nikon D700X, not in the pipeline

I have also heard from a very reliable source that a D700x is not coming.

However, I was told a few years ago, that a full frame camera was not coming and later I was told a 20+ MP camera was not coming. soooooo.....

Nikon management isn't stupid enough to do that.

Face it, the D3X costs so much because there are people who will pay that much to get one, either because they have too much discretionary income or because their customers demand (and will pay for) that kind of resolution.

But let's face it, there is an 800 lb gorilla out there, called the Canon 5D MkII that Nikon cannot and will not ignore.

They ignored the first 5D for years.

What makes you think they won't ignore this one?

Bob Howland Senior Member • Posts: 2,858
Because they didn't have a suitable (i.e., FF) sensor

Now they have both the sensor and the body. All they need to do is combine them to create a D700X.

Sorry, Fred. Your posting history goes way back - like one month! Either you enjoy stirring up fiction for private jollies, or you are a bad PR employee trying to create pre-release buzz.

To the rest of the forum, I apologize for adding another post to this thread (which causes others to think it might contain something worth reading due to its recent activity and/or volume of responses).
Carry on...
