You are the one person minority....

Personally, I'm quite excited about what they have in the pipeline.
I'm in a decent position where I already have perfectly good working
cameras but am looking for a new Pentax - and as far as I can tell,
after the declining years of endless *ist DS clones, they have been
on the up for a few years now, so I see no reason why they should
produce something not as good as the K20D.

They won't, I think this new one simply is not the K20D upgrade path many want.

Perhaps more important, is being a K10d upgrade path, a K100d upgrade path etc. There are a lot of older models still out there, belonging to people who for one reason or another are skipping the K20d.

People with a K20d now, don't have nearly as much reason to upgrade.

Also, to offer features or qualities that will bring new people to Pentax; people who were not sufficiently convinced by the K20d.

Huh and what do you think D300 when it came out and future D400 will

700 US$ maybe?

I think your reply is directed at me ?

If so then I was only pointing out that a newly introduced fullframe body, (ie. the 5D MkII), can be bought locally for around 1900euro.

If the more expensive brand can do 1900euro for a fullframe body than surely it's not out of the realms of possibility that Pentax could do an APS-H body from 1500euro.

I'd hate to think that Pentax are asking almost double the release price of the K20D for the addition of video. It would be pretty hard to justify the additional cost.

cheers,
bazz.

Get a grip on reality guys. There will NOT be an FF or 1.3 crop
sensor from Pentax at €1500, it's just not possible at that price
point.

You will all find out soon enough. I can say no more.

Yep!

For some reason, people seem to be expecting Pentax to get a super D300 with spherical 3D sensor out whereas it will most likely be more D90-like specwise... but with the Pentax touch!

Very true, you can never please everyone, and generally internet forums seem to attract the half glass empty folk!

So often people will translate something that isn't what they want into "it's rubbish!" - for all I know this camera will be either too expensive or not exactly what I want - if that is the case, it'll only mean I will end up buying a K20D.

Either way, I am very much looking forward to seeing what they've produced...

Hum hum, just a K-M full of K20D+ techs and specs.

Where's the problem really? People cry for a digital LX/MX and when
it comes 'geeez it is ugly'.

Reallyn I'm puzzled.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I own an MX (and the 1990's Pentax equivalent, the MZ-5n also with nice dials) but they were well styled for their time. If these photos are really the final product, then somebody wasn't thinking about how to meld classic SLR control and style with 2009 technology. Maybe the angle is bad....

Quite right.

I've been requesting an LXD for a long time. What I don't want is a miniature DSLR-looking camera--that wouldn't be an LXD. From the photos it would look like they've gone for "something new", which is fine, but sadly just not what most LXD petitioners were asking for.

Errr, sorry? ... Twice the price? ... Where did you get that from?

K7? preorder_price is said to be at or below 1,500 € in Germany.

K20D lowest_street_price at launch in Germany was 1,200 €.

Taking all the suggested body improvements and the different currency exchange rates into account, the K7? pricing seems rather aggressive - and certainly not even close to "almost the double".

Hannes
