Re: More birds from SF Bay Area

Geat set, Sir. Sure looks like a productive day. I like the BCNH and the GYL shots the most in this set but that Eared Grebe in breeding plummage is also a sweet shot.

They had a bit of chirping & flapping match and then both settled down on the table together.

More from the Gulf coast of Florida

These were all taken at or very near the beach on the west coast of South Florida with 40D and EF100-400L.
Black-bellied Plover

Snowy Egret

Tricolored Heron

Least Sandpiper

And way too many Brown Pelicans (I just love to see them fishing):

Happy shooting

San Lorenzo River birds

One Saturday in mid-March, I got done early with my weekly games of beach volleyball. For some time, I had been wanting to check out the bike trails along the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz (to see if they are good for inline skating), so I grabbed my 40D, and 400/5.6 and headed out for a walk. It turned out be a good decision, even though I paid for it by almost being late for a family birthday celebration.

I saw a red-tailed hawk

  1. 1 sitting on the very top of a tree

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43914&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 2 the wind blowing through its feathers

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43916&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 3 until it flew away

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43918&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

On the way back on the other side of the river, I saw a great blue heron

  1. 4 standing down by the river

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43920&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 5 yawning

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43922&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 6 staring me down

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43924&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 7 showing off its comb-over hair style

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43932&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

Nearly back to the the ocean, I also saw

  1. 8 a Double-crested Cormorant

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43934&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

  1. 9 and cute little Bufflehead

http://photos.psc.homedns.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=43938&g2_serialNumber=1.jpg

As always, comments and critique are welcome.

The reddish egrets are beautiful ...

and I have to agree with Charles that the 3rd one is extra special.

We don't get these in northern California (or I don't know where to find them), and I've never been close enough to get a good shot when I'm in SoCal. Maybe I'll have better luck when I'm down there in a few weeks.
