Canon T1i

This is a not a rumor but just report on what I downloaded in my CNET Product Reviews podcast feed via Itunes. It was the Canon EOS T1i. How come no news about this in any site? If you google Canon T1i, there is a link to the video but the video doesn't seem to work. My guess is that CNET may have jumped the gun.

According to the video...

It's in between 50D and XSi. It has the same size sensor as the 50D, 15MP. It has creative auto mode. Same body as the XSi. It has a video mode. 720p at 30 frames/sec and 1080p and 20 frames/sec.

Has anybody else seen this video?

Re: Canon T1i

Any mention of AF adjust? Having had a few cameras with this feature, I won't buy another without it.

Re: Canon T1i

If that's true, then i bet the supposed "500D" is the camera you are talking about. The specs you listed are the same rumored specs for the "500D". Canon also talked as if it's going to be a big new release, which i assume is a new line or sub-line of cameras. And with the rumored specs, it's seems like it will be more expensive than the current rebels.

We'll see tomorrow though.

Re: Canon T1i

Well like you said I can find the link from Google, but there's no video there anymore. Sounds pretty interesting, but I'm pretty disappointed they put the 15mp sensor in there. Why can't they just end the megapixel race and up the high-iso quality?

Re: Canon T1i

I agree with the megapixel race. The good thing that was mentioned was that according to the video, this new camera has the same sensor size as the 50D which is slightly larger than the rebel line cameras.

I put a screenshot up on my blog of the video showing the video mode dial...

15mp is too much

In a couple of years there will be no sanctuary from the mega pixel wars.

15mp is NOT too much

it's quite right ...

Agreed

15mp is NOT too much, if it's on a FF camera, like my wishful thinking for a full frame 7D for us low budget amateurs.

The rumours are conflicting (surprise surprise) but this could indicate two new models. A pricey T1i with video and swivel LCD, and a 500d which is a normal upgrade of the 450d for the value oriented buyer without video and maybe without the swivel LCD. I know, the zoomonline.dk photo indicates an swivel LCD on the 500d, but I'm not sure about that photo.

I think it's more likely that the "Rebel T1i" is just the U.S. naming for the "500D", which is the European naming.

video was removed :-(( ... but let's wait 9 hours :-}

Corrrrrect! T1i = 500D

500D is name in Europe - Canon doesn't make TWO cameras - they do not want to make suizid.

Re: Canon T1i

Being new to the world of photography and this forum, what typically happens to the pricing of the XSi when the T1i is introduced. Does the XSi get reduced? Substantially? Thanks.

No, last models are thrown to trash.

Re: There could be two versions

Maybe, but I doubt it.

The more likely scenario is....
Three names, same camera.....

US=Rebel T1i
Europe=500D
Japan=Kiss X3(?)

Yes, that's the most likely explanation, but that would actually indicate bad news for the implemented video. I don't think Canon would throw HQ video in for 'free', after all Canon sells a lot of HD DV cams. Either the T1i is crippled deliberately or severely limited in some way, eg. no C-AF during video. Panasonic tries to differentiate the video and non-video version of the G1, which is hardly surprising. I expect Canon to do the same, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Re: Canon T1i

I wonder if it will get high dynamic range feature ala Ricoh CX1 or Fuji F200EXR...

..and to think that I just purchased my 450D on September....

20fps?

Great. Can't wait to burn non-standard frame rates to BluRay discs for family to view... WTF?!

As if there was any doubt Canon crippled the 5D mark 2 video function to protect its video division / 1 series... 24/25 will soon be available at an $8000 premium!

Re: 20fps?

I'm guessing it is actually 24/25, not 20.
