5D Mark II - Error 70, any idea what caused it?

I was switching back and forth between video/liveview and normal through lens view and suddenly bam... ERR 70, please turn off then on or remove battery.

Anyone else experience this? Just once in about 20 gigs worth of photos/video.

The Cameras response suggests you should stop doing that!

Re: Yes, Look into a Clean Marrow!

You would think it was designed so you can do this. I was taking movie clips of a santa claus parade and wanted to takes some pictures as well, the focusing in movie mode is not fast enough to do this so I have to switch back.

It wasn't like I was playing with it Homer style :).

Sounds like you found the first bug...:(

I have no idea what a marrow is????

I would try to see if it is repeatable. If not I would consider it a minor glitch. Otherwise contact Canon.

Hi,

I had the same problem several times, but shooting photos.

I can ear the mirror going up, and be stopped, it sounds like if it was blocked by something, and the this message "Error 70...."
It happens every 10 or 15 pictures.
They say to check the battery
My config :

I uptated the firmware (the last one to avoid balck dots) and i don't remenber have the problem before
At the same time, i also ad the grip, and i have only one battery inside.

What is your config?

Hope it's not hardware.

mirror malfunction?

hi! my friend had the same problem as he just called me to ask if i've experienced the same on my 5D MkII. what happened was when he switched from live view, error 70 happened. he also said that he took photos with the lower half in black, like only half of the photo is exposed. he didn't have problems after then.

as far as the half exposed photos, i've had only 2 experiences on that, one is that my shutter speed is faster than my flash/strobe (which is not the case) and the other is that when my old 300D got a busted mirror, a part of the mirror's underside unhinges when it flips where it should not.

with regards to one post here saying that he hears something stuck when the shutter releases, it could actually be a mirror malfunction.

maybe. our local canon service center has no ideas on this yet.

Hi,

I did some investigations....
I found this :
http://lightingmods.blogspot.com/2009/02/canon-5d-markii-grip-errors.html

Regarding to this article, it could be a problem with th grip.
Do you have the grip ?
That's why i have written before my configuration.
I have the grip with only one battery.

The guy who wrote this is from Portugal. Canon Portugal wasn't aware of this problem, but he contacted Canon European Headquarter in Germany, and told him that it's a grip problem and they will change it.

I contacted Canon Malaysia in Sha Alam, but they don't know about this problem.

If you have more info, thanks to write it down here.
