LX3 Discontinued

So i've been on the search for a compact camera. I've finally decided to get the Panasonic DMC-LX3. As i started to search an online retailer it seems everyone is out of stock. So i contacted BHPhoto in regards to a status on when the LX3 will be available again. This is the response i got today:

PANASONIC DMC-LX3 DIGITAL CAMERA

Sorry, this item is discontinued from the manufacturer.
B&H has no further access to selling this item.

Thank You , & get back to me if you need further assistance.
--------

So my question to all of you out there. Is there any truth to this statement?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a faulty auto-response. LX3s are like Doritos, "don't worry, they'll make more."

It's probably a mistake. I think the problem is the same with the G1. Panasonic isn't really interested in selling cameras, so they only make them in batches of ten.

Actually, the reply was probably from a Canon marketing representative, hacking into B&H's web mail. If the LX3 is no longer available, maybe folks would go back to buying Canons!

Re: LX3 Discontinued

It's definitely not discontinued but I find it curious how difficult it seems to find this camera in stores and online retailers. Mine is being delivered this morning (ordered from US Appliance) but I had to do a lot of searching to find it at a decent price. It's also weird how hard it is to find cases and the WA converter. Accessories like that are huge profit margin items and I don't know why they're so hard to come by. Could these products just be in THAT much demand, that much more than Panny expected and they're sold out? Seems hard to believe but that's the only thing I can think of.

I don't know what is going on at B&H.

But J&R has the silver version in-stock. I was there on Saturday and the guy said they had plenty.

http://www.jandr.com search on lx3.

Completely reputable.

Good luck.

Sorry, It was not my intention

I have been criticizing many aspects of the LX3 from the very first press release, but I never suggested ceasing production. There is always enough naive buyers, who believe in instant monochrome jpg's.

Anyway I am looking for rush hour release much higher integrity LX5, with articulating LCD, and some other obvious virtues yet before Thanksgiving.
Bravo brave Panasonic!

It's just "out of stock"

See:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/573592-REG/Panasonic_DMC_LX3K_Lumix_DMC_LX3_Digital_Camera.html

No wonder: visiting shops it seems that all lx3 are selling like there were no-tomorrow (even the silver ones!

People are even grabbing all the (absurdly more expensive) Leica versions that they can find.

A propos, that one is still in stock at BH:

Maybe I'll buy another lx3 just in case

Re: Sorry, It was not my intention

I am not a naive buyer and I don't generally use jpg's at at all and I love my LX3. Is it perfect-no. However it is the best compact that I have ever owned and the first that goes everywhere with me when I don't want to bring my DSLR.

There is not need to insult people who buy the LX3 by suggesting they are naive.

Again, the LX3 is shining only on superficially crippled market. I am sure, engineers of such series like Panasonic LX or Canon G can afford much better tools on mechanical and electronic level.
Most likely you will be the first rushing to the store for the LX5 of my design.

I replied to BH and i got an updated reply from them:

Our Answer: Here is the info you requested ...

Sorry, the manufacturer has not provided an
Exact date of arrival, nor why there is a delay.

It has not been officially discontinued.

Visit the manufacturer's webpage for more info.
----------

So i guess it's just poor customer service on BHs part. Sorry for all the craziness. Thanks for all the responses thought. And in regards to Silver, i really want the black one. So i'll wait a few more days for restocking.

Re: LX3 Discontinued

You should just get a Canon G10 instead. It has a smaller sensor packed with 15 megapixels.

Re: LX3 Discontinued

i don't know why but the Canon G10 just doesn't convince me. I've read all the reviews i can't and it just doesn't shine. I really don't care between 10megapixels and 14megapixels as i hardly print any of my photographs. any one else have an opinion on the vs? even though i'm sure there are a bunch of topics on this already.
