Anyone have the new bracket yet? That they shipped out on Fri 10-31, (made for the 50D) I have mine and it doesn’t completely fit right. The little pocket/self that fits under the strap lug, doesn’t fit under the strap lug… instead it hits the strap lug, which will not allow it to fit sung up against the side of the body. (Can’t use the cable release)

Called Kirk and they said they would look into it and get back to me. I called back a couple days latter and they said that the bracket will fit but they do see the issue and will have to retool the whole part and will take about 3 weeks and I can send mine in for a replacement… of course I’m leaving in a few days on a trip.

I could use a dremel on it to notch out about a 1/8” piece and then in would fit, but then they most likely wouldn’t replace it with a new one. I do have several of their products and really like them, but it just sucks when stuff like this happens.

Another comment about Kirk --

I just bought a focusing rail from those guys and it won't clamp correctly (tightly) into my RRS BH40 head. Not sure who is at fault yet but it is worth noting in case anyone else is pondering such a thing.

Is the clamp a Lever-Release or a Screw-Knob? RRS have said that the Lever-Release is only compatible with RRS and Wimberley plates. Was hoping that wasn’t the case but sounds like it is.

This is strange, since I have the one made for the 40D, and it fits and works fine on my 50D. Remote shutter release cord plugs in and works fine. I just need to remember to pull the flap up and back before mounting the bracket if I plan to use it in portrait orientation on the tripod.

I have the Kirk L-plate for the 50D with grip and it fits around the strap mount just fine. One thing I did notice though is that the left front side of the plate (when viewed from the back), touches the camera body. I don't know if this is deliberate or not, perhaps to increase rigidity, which it does.

When I use the L-plate with my Chinese LCD battery grip, it does not come in contact with the camera body and thus there is a little bit of "wiggle" when you flex the plate. I still use the Chinese grip because even though I have the revised BG-E2, I did encounter err99s with my 20D, so I don't use the Canon grip anymore.

Also, I haven't had a problem with Kirk plates working with my RRS BH-55 and quick release clamp. They grip just fine.

I usually buy the RRS plates, but IMO sometimes Kirk makes a better plate so I use both. Plus, I like the way the Kirk contours around the BG-E2 when mated to the 50D.

What I didn't like about the RRS 40D plate, (that they tried to pawn off as a 50D plate), was the goofy way you had to slide the whole assembly over to use the wired remote.

Yes it its the clamp type. I suspect that the screw type would not be an issue.

The original post made me nervous, as I had just ordered the 50D L-Bracket from Kirk and it was in transit as I was reading. I had resigned myself to receiving it and going through the trouble of sending it back and waiting for the replacement.

It came today and I'm happy to report it fit perfectly!

Very nice! I had one of Kirk's brackets on my 20D, and loved it, and am happy to have one on my 50D now...

I spoke with the guys at Kirk and they said there was no problem returning it -- that they had seen thiws issue before mating up to RRS lever clamps.
